Car idles at around 600 rpms, problem or no?
I've noticed that my car sometimes idles at around 600-650 rpms. Is this normal or is my throttle body dirty? I'm hopefully installing a Berk Intake soon, would it be worth it to give the TB a wipe-down in the process?

Mine idles at 850 and its a manual, I have Place Racing motor mounts so anything below 700 makes alot of things shake and squeak. Manuals always idle higher than autos. Torque converter pump creates too much pressure at higher RPMs and this will cause the tranny to wear quicker cause of higher ATF temperatures. Too low of a idle causes wear on the engine from what its called "lugging" the engine. Engine has very little power at idle, so in order to keep runing ECU has to try to compensate for it not to die out. Alot of times you get detonation and preignition from too low of a idle. There should be a sticker under the hood with whats the recomended idle speed for both auto and manual- but since I have a CF hood I can't tell ya what it is. I know on my Infiniti or my 00 Altima there are stickers under the hood with the specified idle and valve adjustment specifications.
