im not quite sure about 4x6 but i want to replace mine with components and mount the tweeters up high in the door, will sound sweet. I was just wondering whether its easy to mount a 5 1/4 or a 6.5 or whether it really doesnt matter between the both with the install or sound quality.

sorry i couldnt help more on your q. if you want cheap good deals though check out this site...

Speakers

First things first.
Do you have a Bose or Non-Bose system?
If you have a Bose, you need to do a search on the threads about Bose and either replacing with Bose or replacing with aftermarket, but bypassing the bose amps.

If you have a non-bose system, then have fun replacing with whatever you want to do.
The 4x6s don't have that much cone space, but the best sounding ones (that will not put a drain on your wallet) are some Boston Acoustics, the next best ones that I heard were some Pioneers and some Sonys.
Good luck.

Non-Bose

I replaced the factory deck with a Sony CD-Player, added Infiniti Reference Tweeters fed from the stock front speakers and reeplaced the rear speakers with some 3-way Kenwoods. The Kenwoods sound better than the stock speakers that were there (more detail), but nothing special I found. The tweeters really helped the front stage, but I think it's time to ditch the stock fronts finally to get better mid-range and a bit sharper bass.

Thanks for the advice.

Front Speaker

If you have the tweeters up front, I would add a real x-over (if there is not one there alreay) and put a pair of 6" subs in the doors.
You will have to get some 1/4" MDF from Home Depot and screw that to the original mount locations, and place the 6" subs in that.
You might consider adding a small 2channel amp to do that.
Good luck.
