Alright, I have been considering the Stillen, JWT and the Ghetto (TM) intakes

First off, I bought one of those intake adaptors off of Ebay for a cone filter for lik $10.00

If i bought a K&N filter and attached it to the adaptor, would it be just as effective as the Stillen/JWT? or will there be problems with this setup?

As well, would you guys reccomend the K&N over a filter like the Akimoto one?

Thanks.

sounds like you have the same set up stillen offers.
but you only paid 10.00 for the adaptor.. by looking at stillen's piece, it looks like it would cost a lot more than 10.00. is it the same size and quality?? stillen's ring is pretty heavy duty...
save up and get a CAI.

Might not be the same

Well, it depends. What is the "adaptor" you got? Is it the same metal bolt-on plate from the stock airbox, or is it an actual velocity stack (polished metal piece designed to channel air inward, basically what you pay for with the stillen.)

yea...that's what i pretty much have...the adapter i got from a local performance shop...the holes didn't fit exactly right so they had to drill holes in it to fit...and i have the cone k&n filter to go with it...it looks same as stillen and jwt but my cone isn't like super big as theirs...just a little smaller

Well thats the thing, It isnt the velocity stack, its just the adaptor.

But the one I have actually does have all the holes properly drilled (it was custom made for the Maxima).

Does the Stillen velocity stack make that much of a difference in the end? Ie. Is it worth buying the JWT/Stillen or should I experiment with my setup?

then again, saving up for the CAI is good too

Dollar value VS performance

yes your adapter will fit and work.

will it make as much power as a stillen? probably very close to the same. The amount of air moving wouldn't make too much of a difference as long as the surface area of the filter is about the same

Remember gents and ladies, the power output from the intake is minimal anyways. a cubic foot of air or two per min isnt much in the grand schiem of things anyways.

Just remember to get a very good filter. The filter is cheaper than a damaged engine. Everyone perfers the K&N but any high quality cotton filter with oil will work. Just like brushing your teeth...do it regularly.

thanks

yeah, I was planning on getting the same filter the Stillen/JWT use

the K&N cone filter

anyone know the exact size of the filter? I know it has a 3" inlet, but are there any other specifications I need to know?

Also, has anyone used the Akimoto air filter?

So will that adapter replace the piece that you take out of the air box when using BrianV's mod? I really dont like duct tape.

Well the idea is, since the adaptor isnt all messed up like that gold one is, it will hold a tighter seal, so you SHOULDN'T need the duct tape

I'm hoping
but i guess i want the CAI now, but im a bit worried about drilling a hole in my car

Why do you guys all want the CAI so bad. IT'S NOT BETTER (http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/caivssi.html) than the stillen intake or the JWT so why would you want to pay more and have to drill a big hole in your engine bay?????? Seems kinda crazy to me.
