A cheap mod for those with a short style intake.

I was bored today and have been wanting to rig something up for awhile to get cooler air to my intake. So I went to Home Depot and bought this piece of aluminum. All you need is the aluminum ducting, electrical tape, scissors and black paint. Btw, I know I'm not the first to do this!

This is the before picture with the intake resonator removed.

The resonator fitted into the aluminum ducting and wrapped with electrical tape.

The finished product painted black.

Installed.

You won't feel the difference from this mod, but I like knowing there is more cold air flowing to the intake. Remember, every little bit helps!

I give you credit for the pics and the writeup, but this won't really do anything
...but my far this is the best looking one that I've seen that people do.

Probably over a year ago there was a guy who put a thermosta unter the hood to test if this did anything and it only lowered the temp in that area about 3 degress.

I did this in the spring and have been measuring the temps under the hood all summer. As long as your moving, no matter how hot it is outside, the underhood tmep by my Berk intake has been 5-8 degrees above outside temp when the AC is off. With the AC on its more like 10-12 degrees above outside air.

But when you stop...look out. The temp can increase to 150 degrees. HOT!

My Place Racing CAI sits ~5-8 deg above outside temp too (determined via IAT reading over OBD-II)... moving or not. So that's the main diff between PR and berk/frankencar/etc--PR CAI stays cool while sitting still.

Note that with the stock intake but without the airscoop resonator, IAT readings used to rise as high as 140F after sitting still for a bit...

Have you guys considered putting in some sort of mesh grill element to act as a pre-screen to the filter. I have bugs, leaves and a whole bunch of other crapped jammed on my Apexi.

For some reason my Berk stays clean looking without any junk stuck to the filter.

Well I definitely know I do. Maybe I can get some mesh stuff and tape it the the front or back of the resonator thingy and then do this.

any of you guys ever take a look at the g35 airbox(stock) looks tge same as the max but has a cut-out that says power channel or something. it is located more towards the hood but to me its still getting hot air. i guess its the volume of air that the stock box doesnt let in. i took a ride in my friends and dont hear intake sounds just the exhaust. very close to doing this to the max.

I have a Berk too... its only been 150 miles, but so far no problems with crap on the filter....

As for the Home Depot mods... keep em coming... its cool to see how creative other people get... I may learn enough from y'all to start doing my own too... with permission of course....
