5x7 Speakers in 3rd gen Max?
5x7 Speakers in 3rd gen Max?
Anyone here successfully replaced their bose front speakers with some 5x7s? Saw a writeup on autotoys.com where they went with some pioneer 5x7 3-way speakers, but am wondering just how much cutting and modding is involved there. Any recommendations for decent speakers that'll fit up there?
I don't think you can fit in 5 by 7 in the stock area. It would need some custom work. I have some 4 in speakers if your interested. You can put 6 by 9 in the back of your car.
Here's the link to the autotoys writeup for those that are interested, Autotoys Bose It says they had to cut the hole larger, but isn't clear whether they had to cut any metal or anything behind the speakers for depth.
What type of 4" speakers do you have? May end up doing that if it looks like too much trouble to go with 5x7s. My concern is having enough bass up front, as I don't plan on any subs or amps at the moment, basically just want something to give as much volume of sound as the original bose did. Will be powered off a 50Wx4 head unit.

For those that used 4" speakers to replace the Bose, did it take much cutting? Just got the front Bose out and noticed they use a 3 hole pattern rather than 4 hole which is what all the 4" aftermarket speakers have that I've seen.
FosgateFan- thanks for the info. Emailed him this morning about those. May just make some myself if he doesn't make them anymore. Noticed the 4" bose pods are ported which likely boosts the bass a good deal, but I'd think the 6.5s would likely sound better.
