Opinions of Eclipse AVN 2454

This radio looks feature packed. My stock Bose just cut out again in the left channel, so once I get another HU I am moving it to the basement where it will sound better and be more functional. I like what I have been reading about the 2454. I figure that I will go all out on this, so I was curious what others have paid and had success with the install. Does it fit well? Who are its main competitors? Thanks for the help. Anything I should know? Your .02 is appreciated.

Ive sold about a dozen or so of them so far. Absolutely no complaints. Colsest competitor would be the Pioneer AVIC-N1 which is of course my second best seller. Main difference is the AVIC is a "flipout" screen and the AVN is a double din of course looking much cleaner. AVIC also needs to buffer its memory for using Navi as there is only one disc slot. AVN has two, one for Navi/Movies, the other for music CDs.

The touchscreen on the AVN is alot more responsive than the AVIC or others out there, as well as its updating is a bit quicker.

Theres a few members on here that Ive done them for, but its up to them to post, as I am not disclosing what others have in their cars...obvious reasons of course. Not an issue, just not my place to say.

The AVN/AVX's are so damn clean....they appear as factory equipment- If I was into the video/nav I'd same my pennies for one.....

I am debating this exact same thing. I would be interested on your prices on both as well. Is the 1 Volt preouts a big deal since I have JL Audio amps with low signal switch??? Also how hard is it to install one of these all in one units. How hard is it to make it where you can watch movies while you drive?? Thanks for the info..

Bully and Oakes, unfortunately you both live to far away. Eclipse strictly prohibits the sale of their products via the internet. Sorry guys, but to me I cant risk losing a line that Ive dealt with and respect for Many years.

Two words. Get it.

You will not be disappointed. I used it to drive 600 miles to Canada and back with zero navigation problems. Everything was on point.

What Don said about the Pioneer AVIC needing to buffer is correct. In my research I've found that it stores about 25 miles of NAVI data before it needs to access the DVD again. So if you have a DVD playing, you'll need to swap discs. The dual drive feature on the Eclipse is really nice. One CD drive and one DVD drive.

The anti-theft on the AVIC is nowhere near the Eclipse either. And as a few other posters stated, it looks a lot more factory, if you're into that factory installed look.

As for the lineout voltage, don't worry about that. With a Kicker line level processor/crossover, 8 volts is being sent to my ARC amps. Thanks Don

Does this just drop in to the stock fit, or do I need custom brackets? Does it come with a wiring harness? I am a big do it yourself kind of guy, so I was looking forward to the install myself. PearlMax, could you pm me a quote on the radio and recommend items to make the install go smoothly. Thanks a lot. If it is any consulation, I will probably be ordering an alarm system too for you to install once I get this toy and my HIDs back in my car.

Does anybody have a pic of what it looks like in a 2k2-3 Titanium?

Eclipse says that it has .8volt preouts is that wrong??? Also please tell us how installation goes and if it would fit right into a 00-03 or does it need a kit. What all on the car has to be tapped into and can the safety be bypassed where you can watch movies while moving?? Thanks for your help. Oh one more thing, even though you can't get us one of these could you disclose your selling price if not please just answer the other questions. Thanks so much, wish I was closer, I would have you hook me up.

It does fit nicely into the 5th gen Maxs although there is some gap on the top when using the "GXE dash" piece. That is simply filled with a piece of ABS plastic. Connecting is pretty straight forward with a wiring harness. Aside from that just splicing in the vehicles speed sensor and mounting the antenna. Very easy to bypass the safety feature by grounding the parking brake wire.

As for the voltage out it is technically 1.8. Rule of thumb with Eclipse is that the first digit is the voltage preout. IE: 8454: 8Volt, 5444: 5Volt, 3434: 3volt...

What would be required to make it work with the current BOSE system to be upgraded at a later date?

Pretty simple install with the Bose system. Not much more work than the non Bose. No additional parts are really needed.

They are working on the Sirius tuner for it, but has not been released as of yet.

One input, two outputs I believe.

Cool so your saying with my SE that the fitment will work with no modifications?? Also do you sell the wiring harness needed?? Last questions is that can I install a switch with the ground bypass to make it work if I ever get pulled over and tested (I don't know if it is that big of deal, just wondering) Thanks for your help!!!

Yes I carry the harnesses, but they can always be picked up locally as well. The antenna adaptor is 40-NI10 and the harness is 70-7550, both from Metra. Dash kit would of course be the "GXE dash".

A switch really wouldnt be needed, as they dont check, if they were to try I would say thats got to be some sort of violation of your personal effects. I dont know the law, but I wouldnt let someone play with my toys

As I see it, only one drawback: the lack of a '3-D' Driver view. This feature has proven pretty useful to me (I own an AVIC-N1 installed by Dan) Besides that, I would take the AVN anyday for all the reasons mentioned over my AVIC. The AVIC is nice, don;t get me wrong; but the AVN is definitely worth the extra money if you can spare it. To catch up, the AVIC would need:

more stock look
better nav database
more functionality in voice command module
more than 1 drive (CD/DVD) or the ability to store more in memory...

the list goes on...

I too have heard this is an awesome unit, comparable with the Pioneer. I like the touchscreen responsiveness too. Just as Don said, you can cure the weak output with a processor. No biggie.

If it were up for a vote, I'd vote to get it. I've had an 8053 for a while now and have no issues.

I have the AVN and I was actually thinking of going to the AVIC. Can people with the AVIC post CON's on their unit, or what they think should be improved.

What makes you want to switch, I haven't seen you post any cons. What difficulties are you having with it?

well, im thinkina bout jumping on the bandwagon on this one too, but let me just make sure i get something right here. the unit has 2 disc slots, but one is cd, the other is dvd/nav.

so lets say im driving to florida using my nav, and i wanna watch a dvd...i still have to take out the nav disc and insert the DVD disc, right? but i CAN listen to cds and have nav running at the same time, no disc swapping...am i right on that?

Thanks Don

Does the AVN have auxiliary A/V inputs on it too? Im thinking that if iI use a PS2 or another DVD player with it, I can have Navi and the AUX input going. Does that work?

BTW, Don, could you PM me with the price you can do on these? Im in NJ. Thanks man.

Yes, the 2454 has one aux input labelled VTR. Its a video/audio input so yeah, another video device would work. I have a Rio Karma currently connected to it.

You would hear the voice of the Navigation, I believe, through the front right speaker. Not sure if it would return to the Navi function and interrupt the PS2 game.

That's a good question, I'm going to try it this weekend.
