My project yesterday...

3 hours and $30 later:

Can't tell a difference, therefore "what a waste."

is that all you did or did you do the lid as well? and why did you do just there? sound? You're better off stripping the interior and doing in there. I can testify that it makes a difference, it did in my 3rd gen. Have yet to do the 4th

you are suppose to use more than one layer. i do not care when my system shakes stuff just as long as it is not the license plate or whatever it is in the back the rattler and makes it sound stupid. so i never turned mine on.....oh yea and it is blown.

I already did the front doors, the divider behind the back seat and the trunk lid a long time ago.

lol, okay im the dynamat guy here, ive got probably over 50 square feet of dynamat in my car, and i started with my trunk, ure first problem is that wutever crap u used isnt dynamat....thats the first problem, and first time i threw d mat in my trunk i couldnt believe it sounded that good, thats back when i had one layer, just like ures....it reduced the rattling and i actually heard the bass sound so much cleaner....i recently took out my seats, front and back, which wasnt hard at all, and i put some on the floor underneath the carpet.....and underneath the backseat, and behind the back seat....the trunk lid, sides and floor of the trunk....i also have some in my doors, i got the trunk kit, door kit, and i just recently bough 39 square feet from ebay for $108 and it was great cuz its actually worth 250 for the bulk kit......in short, get some dynamat...u can just throw it on right over that aluminum foil u got there.....youll feel, and hear the difference....i have 2 layers in my trunk, im getting another amp, and another layer...im in love with dynamat though....

Nah, it's peel & seal. Can't go wrong at $12.50 for 12.5 sq ft. Anyway, I may put another layer on there next time I have the trunk taken apart.

yeah i guess, at that price....but thats something i would have put underneath my dynamat since its so cheap, but why dont u just go for dynamat? quit working around it, lol...its not THAT expensive, get it 40-50 bucks shipped for a trunk kit...

Peal and Seal is the same thing as Dynamat, without the Dynamat price tag, so it works just fine. Now his placement of it there in the trunk, will not really provide any type of noticable sound difference, I mean how many people when driving actually hear anything from that place? Chances are you either hear the trunk rattle? hear the road noise, but I'm not sure there is any specific noise/sound coming from that area (not saying there isn't) TRust me when I say Peal and Seal works just like dynamat, sorta like Raamat...they are all the same...tar based

I think i am missing out on my system now. I got a single sub in the trunk pushing 500 watts. I do hear rattle but not as much as the person behind me..lol.. Where in the trunk does dynamat need to be? HOw did you guys fix your pillars running down your windshield to the dash?...That thing rattles the most

mine is really tight, it never rattles, so i wouldnt know about that, as for the other stuff ure talking about, i highly doubt it but i dont know for sure cuz i havent tried it, and unless u have ure subs somewhere other than the trunk of ure car, like pretty much everyone else...ure gonna hear rattling in ure trunk...so i dont know why the million dollar question is, "uhm, noise in my trunk? its just my 1000 watt subs pounding, but thats it..."....i threw a lot on my trunk floor, put some extreme on the sides of my trunk, and i put extreme on the lid....the trunk kit comes with enough to do ure whole trunk, and i noticed an immediate improvement, u shouldnt have to put like 3 layers of the cheap stuff to even feel and hear a difference, just TRY 1 layer of dynamat and then youll know wut i mean...i mean theres a reason its used by most ppl wit professionally done systems....this isnt a 500 dollar mod ure wasting ure money on if it goes wrong its a 60 dollar trunk kit....from the like 50 ppl i know that have dynamat in their trunk its mostly on the floor, and the second spot that its in the most abundance is on the trunk lid...then again maybe its just me, im pushing out over 1,000 watts so i hear it a lot from my trunk (well used to)

3layers of Peel and Seal is just as good as or better than Dynomat. That is what I have read, I don't know if it is true, but I believe it.

if this was true, then im sorry but it would be pretty stupid not to get it...whats happening here is, okay 3 layers of peel n seal = 1 layer of dynamat, so ill go and buy 3 layers of peel n seal, wtf? im done posting in here, my god. like u had a bad childhood experience with dynamat or something, dont get the dynamat then, lol, later guys...see ya around the board....

by the way, u did do a good job with the trunk though anyway

First thing you need to do is do some research, go to www.elitecaraudio.com then go to www.carsound.com do a search for Dynamat vs. Peal and Seal as well as Raamat. Before you start spewing off at the mouth about bad experiences. If you've never used Peal and SEAL Shut the Fukk up. As I'm typing this I get more and more upset. I've used both and they do the same damn thing.

and since you're leaving...please EXIT STAGE LEFT!

Nupe, its cool, i understood wut u were saying...ManualMaxima, oh man u ever get into a little argument, and then resolve it, then out of nowhere someone still talks about it like its still going on? on top of that, someone who wasnt even involved? then has the nerve to make a comment like, "and thats wuts wrong with forums" that ever happened to u? hope it never does, cuz that shyt is 10 times more annoying than the argument itself, but what can u do...

back on topic though, do these things all weigh relatively the same?

I think that the weights may differ slightly but not enough to affect their performance IMO. With our cars being mostly sheetmetal, any type of additional backing will prove great results if placed in the appropriate places, of course understand that some race their maxes...but I don't think there is a good compromise...cause the added weight is inevitable.

I'm still not convinced that the trunk makes that much of a difference...could be wrong....but u know what else works?...rubberized under coating...not in the car BTW...under that bish...you can't beat the combo of both..

Instead of buying dynamat, why don't you guys just buy the generic? It's the same thing.....

Regular dynamat=Polymeric Mastic. Get it at Mcmastercarr.com. It's so much cheaper than dynamat. I got 60 sq ft for around 68 bucks about a year ago. One 32x54" sheet is 14.62. I say again, It's the EXACT same thing as regular dynamat.

Go to Mcmastercarr.com and type in 9709T19 in the search box. It'll bring you right to the mastics.

You folks need to stop arguing too, it's just the internet.

Oh and by the way, nice job on the trunk Mzmtg.

sounds good but i have over 50 ft already of dynamat original, or as u put it, regular dynamat, i wanted to cover that with dynamat xtreme, are there any equivalents to that? i know its lighter and better than dynamat, and on ebay if u search for dynamat and type 10455 i think, it will show a $94 bulk pack which is retailed at $249.99 so its a huge discount, and thats where i got my last bulk pak from and its legit...i believe its 39 square feet....maybe ill get a few of these cheap polymer mastic sheets to go over the dynamat under my carpet on the floor of my car.....then throw the xtreme bulk kit over that....the reason im so crazy about it dampening, is because i know ppl with systems and they dont have any dynamat and boy does it sound like shyt....feels and sounds like a roller coaster with no padding...its crazy, then u get in my butter soft leather seats and im blasting my music and if ure deaf u wouldnt even be able to tell im pushing out over 1000 watts from my system...cuz it just feels great.....

so im open to anymore generics or things that work just as good as dynamat...., but i dont wanna put like 5 sheets of brown bread to get to have the same effect as 1 layer of d mat....ya know?

Maximus1997 - How much square footage did you use to dampen your car? I'm looking at doing trunk, doors, floor, headliner...I'm not sure how much of this stuff I'll need. Thanks
