Curb weight?

I hear most people say that thier car weighs in the 3000ish range. I looked in my door where it says the weights and it said mine was 4273ish. am i missing something or is my car and year an exception. ('99 SE-L).

Yeah, the 99 SE-L's were about 1200 lbs heavier than earlier 4th gens, due to the cast iron constrabulator.

Just kidding. The number on the sticker is the gross vehicle weight including maximum occupant load.

They dont do it like that. The GVWR is what the suspension and stuff can handle including passengers, fuel and cargo.

Just go get your car weighed to find it's real weight.

How much does an 1995 Maxima GXE, weighs. I am talking about base model. That includes, manual seats, NO ABS, No keyless entry and the steel rims with hubs.

3230 is what my car weighed in at the scales (no passengers)... 5 speed, don't remember how much gas I had, though. Pre Supercharge, IIRC.

There should be a pretty close interpretation on your vehicles registration card. But unless you've shedded weight like CF hoods, spare/jack/seats etc and the like, you should be approximately in that range as the registration states.

I've heard around 3050-3100 range for the 4th gen and throw maybe 100-150 lbs for the 5th.

My 5-spd SE-L weighed 3050 with a full interior (not leather), a laptop & PowerPoint projector, 18" rims, and a bunch of trash too. (I stood out of it and weighed it on a truck scale.)

Anybody know what the accuracy and resolution of those truck scales are? I bet the accuracy isn't any better than 5% on a good day, and it's probably more like 10%.

It's only about 50 pounds, according to Nissan's published curb weights.

How the heck do you weigh your cars? Put four bathroom scales, one one each tire?

I dont want to try that, I might break the scales...

You can weigh it at a truck weigh station. You can also buy (if you race your car, otherwise it's not worth it) scales that have 4 flat panels (similar to the bathroom scales) for each wheel, all connected to a central brain. This shows a total vehicle weight, as well as the weight at each corner, so you can balance the weight in the car for better handling.

How do you guys weigh your cars publicity? Is it as simple as just driving on a truck weigh station and they have a readout that shows you instantly or what? I've never tried it before.

That has to be the most hilarious thing I've read so far today.

I think bringing back a 4 year old thread might get you more publicity than weighing your car at a truck weigh station. But probably not the kind of publicity you are looking for.

4200lbs is what the car can carry up too with passengers and cargo... the curb weight is never really on the door, they just give u the gross weight... Its dumb i know...
