meet the F-IN new guy

salutations max.org!
i have a 93 SE 125k and the only thing i have done is really nothing just a K&N air filter. (I'm currently getting new axle drives and tie rods put on.) So I wanted to get some advice on where to start as far as modding the damn thing. Any input is greatly appreciated.
gracias

Welcome aboard I'm a newbie VE owner also

Here are a couple easy mods:
FSTB (courtesy nissan, I think it was about $70, but you can buy off ebay for cheaper)
Intake ($50-120, I'm sure you can use a WAI without the mid-pipe from any VQ30 Maxima)
Advance timing (free-bee, but you'll pay at the gas pump putting in premium)

fortunately, I still have my MAF adapter and K&N filter from my Frankentake and also FSTB from my 00 Max. Advance timing looks simple from Craig's FAQ page.

Are your exhaust manifold studs broken or the manifold cracked? I can't recall anyone having a warped manifold, but it is very common for the studs to break and need replacing.

I will be having some VE engine parts for sale. I just got my JDM put in and got my old one back home last week. I am going to be taking it apart and selling pieces off to recoup some of my money.

PM me and I might be able to help.

Chris

Welcome and congrats!

What to mod depends on whether you value handling or performance more... there is a lot you can do to make it handle a lot better, but squeezing more horses out of it is harder or more costly.

As you've seen already, the FIRST thing you should do is make sure the car is working properly before you start modding it. Depending on how many miles your car has on it, you may just want to replace certain things (like the tie rods you're doing). There are two reasons for this. 1) It's the "right" way to do things since this lets you get the most out of your mods, and 2) once you mod your car you will likely start to drive it harder. This leads to things wearing or breaking faster if they weren't in good shape to begin with.

Tune up the engine, make sure it's running healthily, and get the suspension checked out. Mine felt "okay" to me last time I checked it, but I'm going to rebuild almost the whole thing soon because it actually isn't okay. HTH

honestly there really is no difference except for the fact that this has the name "stillen" stamped on it and some people like name brand parts. PM me sometime and we'll discuss prices.
