92 SE DOHC... I believe that i have faulty VVT Solenoids causing a terrible top end rap in the engine.. Is there a way to bypass the soleniods to help the niose or am i stuck paying 800 dollars to get it fixed?

Go to 'How to' link on top of the page. Scroll all the way down to the 'engine' section and click on Disable/rewiring your VTC solenoids

VTC......but who was lookin..not me, LOL

 

Also, the solenoids aren't bad, the actual sprockets are (they are the expensive part).

 

yes, close to 500 for each sprocket but im putting my old sprockets back in since i never had vtc trouble

 

Be sure to check your exhaust manifold studs as well. If the noise occurs on startup and goes away as the engine warms up it is most likley broken studs causing an awful sounding noise (just like stuck lifters).

does grounding/rewiring the slinoids totally disable it??? also if it is ticking, does that mean it doesnt work at all?
