My 85 Wagon has been sitting in the sun for quite a while now... and the dash started to crack. I want to remove the top vinyl dash, so i can use it to make another one out of fiberglass. So, i took a few screws out... and the darn thing wont come off. I got all of the screws that hold it on in the front... but there seems to be something in the back of it holding it on.. anyone know what is holding it on in the back, and how to get it off?

 

If you can get yourself a service manual from Nissan for the 1985-88 Masima. It should tell you what the part may be and what to do. Good luck

 

an FSM is your best bet. I dont know how to take off the top just the other stuff Like the center console/dash, instrument panel. Its all there with screws. Just start unscrewing the screws to the dash. I did that and did not even need the book for it.

Get a Chilton's Service Manual for 85---Maximas, I have one and it shows how to remove the top of the dash. Its a good book and a lot cheaper than a Factory manual from Nissan or a dealer. OR go to your local Pep Boys or Auto Zone and look it up...most will let their customers refer to the manuals without purchasing one. Good luck

I actually know the process of removing the dash pad. I don't know if it'll help though seeing that the last post was 5 years ago...

Maybe if someone wanted I could tell?

 

i would say go for it, i'm sure theres someone in the same boat

 

there are like 3 screws that are attached under the plastic part of the dash with lil retaining alighment hooks.

then there are 2 clips that you can remove with a blade screw driver. im guessing you didnt remove the screws because the windsheild was in the way, unless you have a stubby screwdriver.

1st you've got to remove the upper garnish. There's 2 screws hidden

Once you've taken off both screws you can pull the garnish up and it should pop out of place. Using a blade screwdriver is useful. The only problem is that the clips tend to break.

There's a total of 13 clips.

Finally the Instrument Pad/Dash has the alignment hooks that hold it in place which also has screws. I tride using a stubby screwdriver but it didn't fit. So instead just used the ratchet tool with the Phillips end.
