Ok... I went to the dealer that has the 1997 Maxima SE it has:
Leather, Sunroof, BOSE, *bad* wood trim, Heated seats, etc... Auto. 36k miles
list on it on the car is $18,995.
I test drove it & offered $14,500... he laughed... I didn't and told him there were two I30's with the same mileage for $15,995. He stopped laughing, played dumb, "I30"?
Yeah... u know... the rebadged maxima with ALL options & a more prestigious nameplate. He goes, Lemme see what i can do....
He comes back... says NO WAY, offers 1800 off.. which would have been 17,200... than he said 16,900... I told him no way, i can get an I30 for 900 LESS....
he's like well I guess we want this car too much, I said, No problem.. thanks for your time. good bye... I think he'll call back... he didn't like not making a deal
What offer do you think i should take?? I'm thinking I'll take it if he offers me 15,500 or 15,000...
the only thing I didnt like about the car... the trunk lock didnt work... they'll fix it.
and the wood on the dash is starting to deteriorate... some spots are like discolored
I spose it can be taken off?? and I can put a new one on.
and the leather seats in teh front are a bit worn & cracked.
I guess it was a lease turn in.

thanks

I think that $15000 is too much. I recently purchased a fully loaded 96Se for $11000. The car is like new 1 lady owner. I paid wholesale, but I think if you look you can find one for less. The best bet is to buy private.

I paid that much for a new '98 GXE. Dealers make a killing on used cars. Don't give in to them!

Nah, you should laugh at him.
I sold my '98 GLE, fully loaded with every single option, with 18k miles only, for $18000. Offer no more than $15k for that car, does it even come with extended warranty??

I agree, $15k is too much. Back in January I got a black 96 I30t (rare 5speed with every possible option) for under $10k. I bet you could find a 97 I30 for about $13-14k.

The cheapest I30 I've seen same mileage is 16k.. but tahts dealer asking price....
ok I think I just better give up on this one
and look more....
I'm undecided if I want an I30.... I think I like the max better.... the I30's rear is nicer... but its kinda boxy up front....
