G'day all!

Thinking of investing into a K&N filter. Simple question..

Is it worth it?

Void warranty?

Can't void your warranty.....Things that are OEM replacements like air filters and such can not void the warranty. If you do the OSCAI mod, then the K&N will be more worthwhile.

Well.. this statement's kinda open... at what point does something cease to be an OEM replacement? I mean... when they installed my new tranny they wouldn't use redline tranny fluid as it could void the warranty on the new tranny (gimme a break).

A K&N panel shouldn't mess up your warranty though and you will get better gains if you couple it with an OSCAI mod. You could always switch back to a paper filter when going in for service...

The way I understand it, no panel filter can void the warranty unless Nissan (or any other manufacturer, for that matter) provides replacement OEM filters free of charge. If this wasn't true, Nissan could say, "You must buy our filters at $300 a piece or void your warranty". Of course, I got this information from K & N.

Now that explanation makes 100% sense. Of course... since it does make sense it probably isn't true

That is exactly what it says on the box of the K&N filter.....

I have a post down there regarding the cleaness fo the filtered air by K&N, which u might wanna take a look

K&N is reusable and it cost about 45 dollars, plus the cleaning kit with cleaner and oil which is another 10 dollars. 55 dollars for next 10 - 15 years....if u plan to keep ur car tat long....it would be a good consideration than spending money no refills....

SEMA

If you look into SEMA and laws on automobiles, dealers and manufacturers technically cannot void a warranty unless they can prove that a part was the cause of the malfunction for which you request repair. If you add a turbo and it sucks in a gasket, the cause of the error was the added part and that voids a warranty. Nissan and other dealers know this, but can avoid losing warranty $$$ if they decline something that appears to be caused by added equipment. Simply, if Nissan chose to audit a certain part from a certain dealer, and sees that product was damaged or went bad because of another effect (non-factory part) they will not pay authorized warranty $$$. When faced with knowledge and complaint 99% of the time they will give in to repair. Especially if you insist on decline in writing and follow up with complaint to manufacturer or zone rep.
