How many of you would like a RSTB but don't want to give Stillen $150+ of your hard earned dollars? I'm just curious. I currently have drawn up AutoCAD plans to make the brackets and I'm currently working on the dimensions of the bar. If you would be intersted let me know. As it stands I'm fabricating this for myself but if there is interest I'll make 'em for anyone else.

Why are you apologizing? You were right. Just get the 200sx/sentra fstb-rstb combo and you have a maxima RSTB. It's also funny how his sig says click here and we can't.

 

You can't click here because I haven't had time to update my sig. Apologies accepted and I apoligize for my lack of updating the sig. I need to get the first brackets made. I'll fit them on my car as well as a 99 to make sure that everything works well throughout the 4th gen. Guys, this won't be a steal but it sure won't be $100 either. I'm trying to do this for people that want a good quality product that aren't inclined to go fiddling with different parts. I knew that there was the combo option. This is going to be a polished bar that funtions well. I'm making this for myself and local members. I thought I'd offer it up for sale if anyone else is interested.

This is an effort to contribute to the community, not make money. Schuroanski is a group of me and two friends that enjoy working on cars. We have access to a brand new machine shop at school and have decided to begin making lots of things like CAI's, RSTB, Wheel Spacers, and possible long travel rear strut mounts(Don't worry mzmtg I'm not going to sell those.)

It's only the trunk LINER that needs to be cut. I don't know why, but I had pictured cutting metal, but that was back before I knew much Maxima anatomy, LOL. So I'm interested in a bar and I'll happily be a test mule for your prototype.

Wow, I never would have thought that so many would be intersested. At this point the product is not ready to go on any cars. This thread was just to gather info on the interest level. Obviously, since the interest is high we'll get on the ball on this thing. At the very earliest it will be ready for shipment the first week of november but I highly doubt that. We might be actually cutting metal tomorrow but I'm not positive. If you haven't yet said you'd like one please do so. I'll keep this thread updated with the progress. When the unit is finalized I'll post a thread in the GD forum.

 

I'd post a rough cost first. 1/2 of these guys epect you to provide it for $30. If it's more like $60-$90, be prepared for everyone to possibly back out.

 

I know your not asking me, but I think that those are definitely reasonable options. I have made my own battery tie down and maf adapter for the max and that was a really simple process. I think that the people who don’t have the tools and equipment to do this stuff, would really appreciate being able to buy it cheap.

 

Battery tie down is a GREAT idea. Super easy to make, and you can sell them for $15 or something and still be way cheaper than Stillen. Look into that next, Broaner!

 

Well here is the deal guys. Shipping is going to be $20 to most places within the US. I bought the first bit of material that we need yesterday. 1 12"x12"x1/4" sheet of steel costs $17. That is enough material to make the base of four brackets. So each bar has $8 of that steel in it. We are going to start by making the base of the bracket and then weld on the little arms that come up and connect with the rod. That is going to be at least $6 of steel for each unit. We are using 1" round stock of aluminum and that cost cost a but load. I have yet to price that out. We priced out the matching bolts that we are going to use yesterday. It is much easier to buy pre-threaded(1 is regular thread, opposite is revers thread) bolts because our shop doesn't have any reverse dies stuff. Those are $5 per bar. We will however need to buy a revers thread tap so we can get the thread down into the aluminum bar. I know that these are not expensive but it all adds up. We also need to buy the matching nuts and those are $.50 a piece.

So far, for just the current materials we are looking at $20+Aluminum rod. I'd guess 15' of 1" aluminum round stock is going to run us $100+. And figure the actual rod it 3.5'. We can get four units out of one rod of aluminum. So, right now it looks to be roughly $45 per unit not including shipping. With shipping its going to cost us $65 to get these to you and we are spending our time to make these. I'd say $75 is the absolute minimum. More realistically though, I'm going to get burned out real quick making these for people that I've never met before and only getting $5($10 for two people is $5/person). Keep in mind that these bars are going to be nicely polished. They are also to have little criss-cross sections on them that allow you to get a nice grip on them and tighten it down. Each bar will have two sections on it that are like this and they will be close to the edge of the trunk lining. That is the rough priceout and it is up for alterations at my discretion. I'll post the updated price with the new thread that I start in the GD Forum.

Man I swear I posted on here yesterday. Oh well. Here is the deal. After debate and discussion I've decided that steel would be the better material to construct the unit of. As a result of this revelation, lol, we will be making the connecting rod out of steel. If you really want it to be aluminum we can do that to but its gonna cost. We can paint the bar any color. Also, it will be square for the reason that its easier to work with and its cheaper(I would imagine square is also stronger. . Finally, we also decided that the downfall of many aftermarket bars of this nature is the pivot points that they have. All this does is allow the chassis to flex in a parrallelagram. The style FSTB that I currently have simply puts a bar in the middle of the flexing. A pivot style STB will do a fraction of what a stationary one would. As a result we are making no screws or points to offer adjustment it will simply be a direct bolt in part. This will again be cheaper and less time consuming for us. I'd be glad to give the AutoCAD files to anyone that has this program and the means to manufacter the part. If not I'd be glad to sell you one.

 

Good idea, good logic. Maybe that's why I never noticed a difference with my FSTB. You don't think this will weigh more than 15 pounds, do you?

It will definitely not be 15Ibs. I'd say 5 to 10. The square stock is going to be hollow so...

Its not really done yet so I can't post pics but I certainly will when its completed. We have a full week of school this week and we will get pretty far, <I>hopefully</I>
