buying 5 spd 95 maxima

I am about to buy a 5 spd 95 maxima with 156k on it. I heard that the 4th generation maxima does not have a timing belt but timing chain. is that right? what do i need to do to this car running for at leat 3 more years? Thank you.

Nah, Nissan still uses belts, just not on the VQ series engines.

To keep it runing in tip-top shape, do a basic tune-up:
-spark plugs
-air filter
-fuel filter
-throttle body cleaner

then go further:
-sea foam
-o2 sensor check
-knock sensor check
-egr check
-check your cat
-check your down-pipe flex section
-check suspension components

you get the idea, all of the above are DIY's

thats a good deal, also check to brake fluid and coolant. The brake fluid is one of the most overlooked item with maintenence so if its dark, have it flushed and changed. Same with the cooling system because if it failed, it can be a very $$ fix.
