Toyo Proxies 4 noise level

I finally got my rims and tires put on.. very happy with them and the performance i'm getting. Only thing I can complain about is the road noise i'm getting from the toyos.. they seem to produce quite a noticable whine.. kinda low pitched, like an airplane jet engine (but not as loud of course). You can really start to hear it at 50 MPH and higher. Is this normal?

235/45/17. I really wish they made a 225/50/17, it would be perfect for what i want, but these are still really nice tires despite the extra noise.

235 is actually a better fit than the stock 225 in my opinion

Well when you go wider track and thinner sidewall, road noise is gonna go up, and you'll feel the road a bit more. Then there's the compounds used in higher speed rated tires, which also increases road noise, especially as the tires get worn down. So to me, what you're describing doesn't tell me much. Can you compare it to any other tires you've had (besides stock)? I do know that the old Proxes FZ4 were supposedly very loud...

when i bought this car, it had some worn down Toyo Proxy A04's (i think that's the model number on them). They were pretty quiet, but only 215 wide. These are the first brand new "performance" tires I've ever had.. normally on my old car i always bought used tires and didn't care what kind, so I don't really have anything similar to compare to. I do know i've never had tires that make this droning sound.

My friend said his did pretty much the same thing when he went to a wider tire (295 pireli scorpios on his suburban).

Coming from Potenza RE950s I wouldn't say the Proxes 4s are quiet, but at the same time they have less noise than the Potenzas did. Those things were loud as heck when they had significant wear on them. I certainly don't hear anything like you're describing.

i don't know what noise you guys are talking about. i'm running on toyo proxes4 245/35/20's and it's nice and quite for me. i had to replace the two front tires because it was defective but other than that performance is great.
