2002 6-speed or 99 5-speed

been lookin at the 6 speed cause i do all highway but its pushing me on the $$. I could get a 99 5 speed, maybe do some mods, lower miles, what do you think?

02 maximas have been around 16,600 to 18,000, with about 40k miles

I love my 4th gen but if I had the money I wouldnt be able to pass up a 5.5 gen. Both 99's and 02's have their share of problems but you cant beat the 3.5's performance. Plus its a bigger car and more refined.

2002 6speed is nice, but the 99 SE doesn't have a top speed limiter. Nice to be able to go 140!!

2002 is a nicer car, faster car, if less miles more reliable (newer) car. But it's also more expensive. It's your decision man. I would go with the 6 speed myself.

I have had my 02 6spd over 140. the "limiter" is set at 149MPH, as someone proved on a dyno.

I SAY BOTH!!! haha
that would be the perfect solution but if i had to choose by far the 2k2. the 3.5 is a machine!!! the 99 are fun to drive though and as said above will hit your pocket for less.
good luck whatever you do

3.5 no doubt (99 not a bad choice either) but like the guys said it depends on your budget also remember more than likely the 3.5 will cost ya more in insurance as well.

Depends on how much you're making ar you're new job.

I'd suggest a 99 because if you've just landed that job as you stated, then it's nice to enjoy the salary benefits for awhile.

Pay the car off in a couple of years, and then get a 6spd or something else that you might like.

Just giving a word of caution if you're a first time buyer, and telling you what I did.

I think this is a very tough decision. If they are both in flawless condition I'd say the 99. I love the styling and HID's on the 5.5gens but the money saved can go to mods to make the car you want instead of the car everyone has. A 99 can be had for $10K meaning you save $6 to 8K. Something tells me you could make the 99 handle much better and be a lot faster for that amount of money. Hmm... The 99 is also much lighter which means its going to be more nimble. Insurance will also be cheaper on the 99.

If I had the chance to chose, I would go with the 2k2 6spd.

Which has less miles? That's the real question that you should be addressing...

if you're looking at it from a financial perspective, you know the 99 will last you, and itll be chaeper, and you can buy a bunch of mods you can probalby resell after youre done with the car. newer cars arent always the solution. im sure you can enjoy the 99 alot if you tweaked ita bit. though the 02 will still be under warranty, might be hassle free for 2 or 3 more years.

My vote goes for the 2k2, but I'm from Florida, so you might need to recount mine later.

A little birdie told me that when the 3.5 went in, the body was reinforced to handle the additional torque and hp

I'm actually in the same predicament, thinking of selling my 4th gen and getting a 5.5gen.
