00 has much more power then my 96

hey guys,
well last night i was driving my dads 00' 5 speed and man it just feels like it has a ton more power then my 96. (flame suit on) All he has is a Berk intake. Im not sure why i think it has more powe but when i hit 2nd gear in his car it just keeps pulling. In my 96 it like drops back to like 4500 then picks up speed again. It sounds like the clutch is just not holding which is a possabilitiy. Anyone else ever experienced this? Maybe ill get a video of mine compared to his.

Thanks guys
Sean

My 95 (prior to modding) always felt quicker off the line than my wife's 2k, but the 2k felt more powerful on the highway.

The 95-99's are just as quick as the 00-01's due mostly to being a lot lighter. If you feel a huge difference, your knock sensor is probably blown on your 96 which will kill a good 20-30hp. The 00-01's will pull away from a 95-99 on the highway due to all of the extra top-end, but around town and at the drag strip there's not much difference.

O2 sensors, dirty throttle body, exhaust leak. Check your codes.

How heavy are your wheels? 15"? 17" 18"? On my OEM 15" wheels and rather used and crappy All-season tires I ran 15.09 stock with consistant 15.1s. With my friend's 18-inchers it was consistant 15.6. You can really feel it off the line.

no, you have to manually check for the code. it won't pop up as a CEL.

Yea my 95 1st and 2nd are extremely slow. Well now i know why. My KS is bad. And i just have a Pr CAI and a Y-pipe.
Two weeks ago i was running with two of my other cousins 98 auto and a 2k1 stick. From the jump the 98 pulled on me in second so did the 2k1 but amazingly i caught up to the 2k1 because he lost his top end( due to accident ).
Now i notice that my clutch slips between 5k and 6.5k from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd does this mean my clutch is going bad already. Only put it in about 1.7k miles ago?

There are several possiblities. I think the most likely is that it is just in your head. Of course no body likes to hear someone say that, but it is usually the case. Different cars can feel faster because of where they make their power but not actually be faster.

You also have 18's...how heavy are they?

You did not trap 98mph in a 4th gen with just an intake....I don't think your lying, just remebering wrong.

You may be right... I know i ran a 15.1 but not positive about the trap. I know it was in the 90s though.

15.1 is entirely possible. It's a great time for just an intake. For all intensive purposes that is a stock time. Most stock 5spd 4th gens run 15.2-15.4 but there is a handful who have gotten 14's stock. I bet your trap is more like 92mph....a big difference from 98mph.

yea what he said you'd have to be making another 30-40 whp to be trapping close to 100 mph.

If you do have 18's and your knock sensor is good, that's where the problem lies. You gotta sacrifice some low end in order to have 18s
