Torque-RPM chart

Hello,

I have both the Factory service manual and the regular user manual for my 88/2 Maxima SE (5sp. stickshift) but I can not find the torque-rpm chart in neither books.

Can someone point me to anywhere on the web where I could see a copy of this chart?
Or, does someone know at what RPM the engine will give you the max. torque and where can you get this info from?

Also, how about the max power/rpm in HP or KW?

Thanks,
Geza

Around 4-4.5k rpm. Based on my dyno.

You mean the max POWER is at 4000 RPM, right?

The max torque should be lower than that, I think.

I just drove a GM Malibu 4 cyl car in the Grand Canyon area and before my trip I could check the max. torque on the GM website and it was 4000 RPM. but this car had a 4 cylinder engine.

Therefore a 6 cylinder engine should give out the max torque at a lower RPM, my guess is either 2500 or 3000, I just would like to know the factory specs on this.

You can't really compare these older engines to a new(er) Malibu. Now, I don't know how big that I-4 is, but not all 4 cyl. are peaky. Our motors are not very peaky either, but they aren't exaclty known for pealing out at idle. The important thing to keep in mind is that engines have come a LONG way since 1987. Even Nissan's own new 4 cylinders are just as powerful if not more powerful than our engines. Even the KA24DE which came out in the early 90's produced about 140-150hp IIRC.

So, the moral of the story? THEORETICALLY a 6 should have more power and at a lower rpm but keep in mind how old our engines are when comparing them to new motors.

And as for the answer to your orignal question, Sarin's probably one of the few people who's actually dyno'ed his car, so trust him. Besides, I think he's really robot built by Nissan to answer our questions. He knows alot, but every once in awhile he will just post in binary or say "DOES NOT COMPUTE."

Oops, went back and look at my dyno.

Max power is about 4700rpm, Max torque is about 3300 rpm with at least 90% of it coming on down 2000-2500 rpm. Though my car is probably torquier than most that I've seen so far.

Well S., thank you for the numbers, now I have an RPM range in my mind where I can get the best fuel mileage (least amount of torture) while going uphill in the rockies with 3 passengers and a loaded trunk.
