Speakers Cut Out - Opinions?
Speakers Cut Out - Opinions?
The speakers flat cut out in my '01 Maxima. It did it when i first got it (about a month ago) i just replaced the stereo, so i know it wasnt the HU. Also, the HU keeps playing just fine, just no sound. If you slam the doors, or beat them the speakers will come back on. I was thinking it may have something to do with the speaker wiring in the doors, possibly shorting out the rest of the system? I plan on replacing them soon, but i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or know what it could be.
Thanks

Thats usually rare if everything is factory and nothing has been messed with, but it is very possible. It will just take some testing. Do you have Bose or not?
If you have a multimeter, go behind the dash and test for continuity, on all the speaker wires, i.e. testing if any one of the speaker wires is touching a ground somewhere. Even one speaker grounding out might cause the head unit to cut out all the speakers.
Other than that, just random troubleshooting.
Good luck

No it isnt bose. When i got the car it had a pioneer HU. I put in a Alpine dvd & alpine screen. But it was cutting before i put that in. I am thinking its grounding from the terminals in the doors, since slamming, or just banging on the doors brings it back to life. A week or so when i buy new 6.5" for the doors, i'll see how it looks in there.

well mine, the whole system cuts off cuz the voltage meter reads 12 or less =D, thanks to my stock battery...it might be a connection problem or if you have an amp powering them along with a subwoofer, its most likely a power problem which makes it go into protection
No amp powering the speakers, i havent installed all that yet. But the head unit still plays, screen is still playing movie, just no sound coming out. Hit the door, and it comes back on for a minute, then make a hard turn, goes back out. Hit the door again, back on. -dr0
my accord that i just sold was doing this exact thing. it would happen whenever it rained and it was really annoying. if i banged on the driver door they would come on sometimes and after a while that trick stopped working. well i took the door panel apart and saw that one of the wires where it connected to the speaker was actually touching the door frame. just bent the connector a bit and the problem was solved. good luck.
i had a problem just like that.. it was the suspension for the trunk. the bars that run below the rear deck speakers were to close to the speaker. try covering them or pulling them out of the way. might help.. good luck..
