my ashtray light bulb went out. does anyone know where i can get a new one and the part #. thanks

 

i was wondering that too cause i accidentaly broke mine, but now i have my underdash neons hardwired to it instead.

 

I'd say it's a dealer item. If you twist out the bulb from the ashtray, you'll notice it's attached to a white plastic shaft. Look closely and you'll see that the bulb is actually soldered onto this plastic shaft.

If you're good with soldering, you have two options. Go to Radio Shack and get a similar size bulb and switch it out OR solder in a 3mm LED. Make sure the led is pointing into the ashtray and it should come out looking like this...

 

MY light goes on when it wants to (1 out of 100 starts) anybody know what is wrong. It's a bizarre thing.

 

why bother? (may be a dumb response from me, but i really don't get why anyone would really need it...maybe that's because i assume people are smart enough to not smoke in their cars, but you know what they say about assumptions...)

 

If you notice in the pic above, I have the 12v plug, not a cigarette lighter. Some people use it as a coin holder like I do, not just an ash tray.

 

why would people that smoke need a light to guide them to the ashtray?? dont they usually ash out the window?
