Low RPM idle.

My 2003 6speed max is idling a little low i think, and fluttering ever so slightly. Not enough to notice without being picky. 37,000Km's. Any ideas anyone?

clean the throttle body, change the pcv valve, air filter, shouldn't be plugs at this point, not enough miles, but if you run bad gas it might be. start with a throttle body cleaning and pcv valve for a cheap solution. if it's not resolved, your problem may be deeper than that.

I have a intake. The filter needs changing. What is stock idle?

Different info. Well its not so much the idling as is the shivering i feel from the car. Is it a bad mount? slight misfire? I dont know. Its at the dealer today, Im sure they will blame everything on teh intake.

Dealer said the idle was fine. everything checked out normal. I said, what about the shaking feeling. They said they wouldnt check that because the car has after market intake. I'm not surprised.

^^^ never clean the TB on 02 -03 max because 99.9% you will mess the TB plate. either it need to program by the dealer using the consult II "Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure(Throttle Position Learning Procedure)". The other chance is bending the TB plate by using force. Some org, member aready made this mistake.

I dont understand. You can't clean the throttle bodies on these cars? What plate are you refering to?

sorry about the repost
you can clean it, but You run a bigger risk of bracken the TB. basically the plate is very fragile

The previous Max (EX 01-00) throttle body plate are controlled by using wire and spring (throttle plate control how much air enter the engine) the new Max 02-03 throttle plate are controlled by computer sensors and mechanical. every time you shut the car the plate stay in the same spot, but when you forced to plate to open, the spec position of the plate is town off, because you moved the plate around when cleaning. this will cause a high idle and you will need the dealer to get the plate in right spec with the computer they have (consult II) .

You can try and loosen the timing belt (very lightly) about 1/8 inch. That should get your revs up a bit. If your belt squeels, tighten it a little. Easy fix

Idles are fine. 7 and change. They did some air volume test and relearn process. Then istalled a new apexi filter. Man, the MAF Sensor plenum was dirty, can that be cleaned? Can teh dealer clean teh throttle body?

just read this and see what I mean. Just don't clean it, You run a bigger risk braking the thing than cleaning it, http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=356816

I'm a victim of this....... I took the damn thing off and it shorted out. Thank got for powertrain warranty.

There has been an org member that did clean his 2k3 successfully though. He disconnected the neg battery terminal and just sprayed the cleaning into the TB. With this thing being computer operated so many things can go wrong. As of now I don't know too much about exactly how they work or why exactly mine shorted out, but I wouldn't risk it. My throttle body wasn't even dirty.

$1000 was not worth cleaning this much of crud off the back of my TB.

I've seen a lot worse and it really wasn't that much stuff.

^^^ some other guy from NJ bend his TB plate when cleaning it, but he just bought used TB form org. members wrecked car. To you the truth, I cleaned the TB last week and got P 0517 ( hi idle). It took my friend a hour to program it back to spec with the consult. right now I don't have the SES light, but car jerk when comming to compete stop ( the rpm rise up and down) I think the tranny is just down shifting down shifting. plus he erase the ECU, may take time to repogram it back ( tranny shift piont )

The maf for 02-03 are $500 each, but you can use 2k1 maf for $100.

you just take your temp sensor form the 02 03 MAF and put it in the 01 maf. If you don't won't mind having SEC light you can just do plug and play.
