HELP!!! How to remove shift *** on 1998 maxima

Does anyone know how this is done? It is a manual and when I try to twist it off, only the leather is going with me.

It twists off. Mines a '95 and just came off. If you don't mind ruining it you could use a set of visegrips. It may help to try heating it up a bit with a hairdryer or heatgun.

If you want to keep your old shift ****, I don't recommend the vice grip method. I just used both hands and it finally broke loose. It took a few minutes, but it did work...and I still have the old ****.

the visegrip method is by far the best and if you want to preserve your old ****, wrap 2-3 layers of cloth (terry cloth is the best) around the **** then use visegrips, thats what i did and it works beautifuly

grab with both hands very tightly and twist as hard as you can. mine came off this way after like 5 minutes.

You could use the vice grips and some sort of cushion...like a rag or something if you don't want to damage the ****.
