Not to tell you what to do or anything, but I wouldn't buy a lease vehicle. Some are good, but with others you're rolling the dice. Think about how you drive a rental car and then ask yourself if you'd buy that car afterward...

A lease is basically an extended rental despite what the salesmen tell you.

Not all lease vehicles are bad. I worked at a Nissan dealership here locally, and we had a very good lease program. All the oil changed were free and tire rotations and balancing were free. All records were kept and we never had any bad vehicles come back. Most of the time, the leased vehicles were in better shape than the ones that were bought out right.

go to edmunds.com to get a TMV on the car in question.

The key is that not ALL leases are bad. I know how I drive over speed bumps in a rental. Not to mention a little red-line action, ect, ect. If you get a lease, you don't get any money back at the end, so what do you care about it's condition, other than to keep from losing cash on the return. A car can look great and have great records to go with it, but what about the suspension, rings, bearings, struts, ect. I'm not knocking the car w/out seeing it up close and looking into the wearable components, but I know what I'd do.

$13,000 to $14,000

I got my 2002 SE Auto, cloth interior with 18K miles on it about a year ago for $16,000. Car was in immaculate condition. I think I got an excellent price so I think $13-$14 considering milage should be fair.

see. i am confused. i dont know what to pay for the car. i have the dealership down to 16,500. they wont seem to budge for 3 days now. i dont know if this is a good deal or not. i really need help. all the websites i go to say that 16500 is under what retail should be. i have checked nada.com. edmunds.com and kbb.com. but am still confused if 16500 is too much

$16K is too much for that car with those miles. Buy from someone on here, we are usually car enthusiasts who pamper our machines with frequent fluid changes washes/waxes, etc... If you want an 02 with a 6 speed you can have mine for $14.5 and it has UNDER 40K miles.

Actually Chris - it is dark grey. Dallas is a 9 hour dive. I have relatives there.

You dont need to buy form a dealership. Buy from someone you know or get it inspected (costs like $75) for piece of mind. Look on ebay. Lots of cars in TX. If you go the Ebay route just inspect it and get carfax before you buy it.

check out dealerships in austin. i go tmy 01 AE for a little over 11K but it had 60K miles on it. I had all records of maintenance and had the car checked out at the nissan dealership before I bought, but I would think you can get an 02 with 50K miles for no more than 14K, if it is in perfect condition.

Wow, reading all the deals you guys got I think I paid an arm and a leg. To give you an idea of what they seem to be going for, Chris, I got loaded 2002 SE 6-speed model with HLSD and everything but Nav and heated seats. It cost me $18k.

how many miles were on it?

I really don't care anymore. You just can't get them that cheap here...I'm not the only one getting screwed. Dallas has to much money and the dealers know this and could care less about a kid trying to get a good deal when there are sheep out there that will scoop it up for 4 thousand over what its worth.

i have just about the same question, 2k2 Se w/ Everything., Bose, nav, leather, 6speed, heated seats. Nada says i should be paying around 19 something, oh yeah the car only has 27k miles on it.

Well, if mine had everything but Nav and heated seats, and it cost me $18k with 33k miles on it, then I guess 19 sounds about right for what you're saying.

all of that and Nav eh? That's truly the unicorn of the Maxima world.

Brake HARD when you're test driving it. Make sure the steering wheel doesn't shudder or anything when you do that, because that might be an indication of warped rotors. Happens a lot on these cars.

Listen to the Bose system, speakers tend to cut out and and CDs tend to skip.

Windows - I've had window motors die pretty often on my 2k1, but so far I've been lucky with my 2k2.

That's all I can think of for now.

You really need to look more, Dallas isnt that rich of a city so that's a horse**** excuse. Any dealership can ask any price and not sell it to you, time to move on and find something realistic.

Sounds fair-glad you found a car.

As far as what to look out for...I say check the FAQs. But at under 36K miles, many of the TSB issues are still warranted so you should be good. I had 2 things fixed...one was new clutch at 24K miles and other was wind noise from right rear window.

Wow, what happened that you needed a new clutch at 24k?

hey chris, good luck with the deal... Im a sales manager at a dealership in cali. there are a lot of factors that play into a dealership not wanting to sell the car for a little less money. Most of the time when you go into a dealership they want you to buy the car first time you walk in, because more then likley you as a customer are not going to come back.

If you can perchase the car for 14,500 thats a pretty good deal. pay off for someting like what you are looking at is really close to 14k.

oh yeah, and the biggest mistake to make is fall in love with a car, because if the sales person you are dealing with figures that out then they are gonna play little games with ya.

Also you wanna get the platnum warranty offerd by nissan, DO NOT settle for anything else other then the nissan manufacture warranty. Also toyota will also offer extended care warranty for your vehicle. You should get those for pretty close to 900 for 3 year 45k mile warranty. Also there is some barganing room in the warranty, most finance people make there money on warranty and extra stuff you buy from them. I recommend not getting anything else other then warranty. its a good idea to always get that.

pm me if you have any questions. like maybe what the cost is on the warrantys!
