Maxima stumbles, dies, then is a hard start..
I know I did this on the wrong order. I had the codes pulled and reset. Came back as a bad knock sensor. After a while the codes came back, of course, but I didn't re-check them. I then replaced the knock sensor, but didn't reset the code, duh
. (Just can't be any more stupid, huh
) Car still stumbles, dies, and hard starts after it dies. When it is running, the idle is not very steady, but a little erratic. Re-pulled the codes. Knock sensor was still there of course, but there was also a engine coolant temp sensor code.
I should have known better, I was lazy, shoot me.
So the question(s) is, since the code was not reset, would the car continue to exhibit the same behavior even after the knock sensor was replaced? Secondly, would a bad thermostat cause this same behavior? I would have thought it would have just overheated, or taken a long time to heat up. I haven't driven it around today cause I didn't want it to die in the shopping traffic. That would have been a nightmare. Suggestions/comments?

Had this same problem for months, until recent. Run a diagnostics again and pull the codes. My code was for the coolant temp sensor. Replaced this $27 part and the max never stalled again
...this after spending $600 to replace the fuel pump and ignition coils...trust me...run the codes and replace whatever is coming up wrong.....less hassle than trying to figure it out...

Thanks for the reply. Was your idle erratic as well? When I am at a stoplight and the car is in neutral, so the car won't stall, the engine kinda surges, but not so much the the rpm gauge jumps much. I will have to replace the thermostat this week.

Havin the same problem... my after drivin with warm engine, car would die at a red light and take a few starts to start it back up again. The RPM needle would bounce between 1k and 0. It doesn't happen all the time tho...
I read this article: http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...3&postcount=42
Think i gotta replace my KS too.... jeez this car becoming a big hassle!!!
