Didn't even know this lit up?

hey guys, drove to the store the other night and this was lit up:

im talking about the cold----hot display.. i've had my car for like over half a year and this is the first time its ever lit up.. i didn't even know it was suppose to light up!!

Anyways, now it doesn't light up anymore..it only worked once. what could it be? a loose bulb?
