In the market for new Tires....Potenza RE71?
Im in the market for new tires for my 96 GXE, 235/45/17....Im in the mountains so i need a tire with good wet traction, but doesnt have to be an All Season tire. Ive been told the Bridgestone Potenza RE71's were good and they are at 106 each on tire rack.
Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated
thanks

Tires
Yeah the RE71 is a good tire I've gone through a couple of sets on my se-r back when my new suspension still felt new. And those tires are great in wet & dry. Now I've got RE730's on my 96 Max w/ 97 rims in 225/50/16 and they are awesome too. I'd probally go with those cause they're a new design & only a couple dollars more then 71's. The 730's may give up .0001 or so of a G in dry corners but are just as good or better in the wet, and they definitely last longer then the RE71's. I've had the 730's on the track at work and they are loads of fun. Bottom line: both are a great choice and you won't be disappointed but I'd lean towards the 730's.. Good luck....
I decided to go with the RE730s. I got them for 137 each on tirerack.com and i basically decided to spend the extra money because ive read that the 730s last longer and have a little better wet traction which is the main thing i was looking for.
I ordered them on Monday, I should be getting them anytime now.
Thanks again

I've got the RE730's too- and they rock!!!
I've got 235/45 17's and have 13,000. Got em last month. I drive quite a bit for work and these things stick like crazy. Turn in is wonderful and the AAA tread wear rating is awsome - the cost is more than justified.
Car will not break away at 40MPH and under. Just turn and hold on. Lots of fun.

The RE71 is a very old tire design, these guys like the Re730 so thats good. I would also look at the yokohama AVSdb,and espically the BfGoodrich G-force kdw or kdws they are the hottest tires out. Went to a major road race this year (all weekend) and saw that all the winning cars had the G-force kd tires, they are dry traction only. The kdw are wet and dry (the ones Im getting) or the kdws they are all season ultra high perf. look around these g-force tires are HOT.
UPDATE on tires......BIG set back
I received the tires today and they look awesome but received a huge set back when i took them to get installed.
I bought rims on ebay and was informed that 3 of them were bent. The rims looked to be in good condition but when put on the balancer, it indicated otherwise. The mechanic recommended that i didnt put them on my car. So i put my old tires and rims back on.
I contacted the seller (who ive already have had a lot of problems with) about the rims and he isnt being any better.
I filed a case with safeharbour and I guess all i can do now is wait. I feel that i have a very substantial case hopefully it will work out for the best.
Im just mad at myself for not getting everything at Tirerack in the first place and being so naive.

Re: UPDATE on tires......BIG set back
I feel your grief. Why not post the seller's name to help others from getting scammed?

Buddy that sucks. When you bend aluminum wheels
they are gone. Mild warping can be OK - but three dented one's - some Ebayers are evil people.
I would honestly check for any other auctions he has -create a new name for yourself- and screw him by being high bidder then renigging. He would get charged those Ebay percentages of the high bid. Just a thought.

Ouch... that sucks.
People I know seem to prefer Bridgestone (RE71's, RE730's, S-02PP's) over Dunlop (SP8000). Kumho Ecesta Supra 711 and 712's are supposed to be decent and cheap. Yokohama AVSdb, AVS Sport, AVSi... good stuff...
