Knock Sensor Dilemma. Need some assistance. Check this out...
Aight, so I check my maxima today for any ghost codes. BINGO! 0304=KS. I pop the hood an locate the knock sensor. DAMN! How do you guys fit ur hand in there?? Anyways... I trace the harness wires back to the Knock Sensor. But in notice something in the process. Correct me if I'm wrong, bu the red connector that attaches into the KS itself SHOULD have 2 wires coming out of it, because it has 2 sockets. I only found 1 wire coming out of it!! Does this mean that maybe my harness is f'ed up and that's all I need to buy? JUST a new harness?
Also, another ques... where can I purchase/get a 470k lead resistor to trick the ECU into thinking that the KS is ok. I read the FAQ's (pg2) and that's what they said to do for the bypass procedure. (I wanna see just how many horses I'm missing out on.)
BUT, if the KS was truely busted/disconnected, my car would feel sluggish when I stomped on it. It definitely is NOT sluggish. This is what's confusing me. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing out on!! LOL.
I plan on working on this during the day saturday, so i'd appreciate some quick replies. Anything will help really. Thanks!! (and sorry for the long a$$ post).

Don't do the resistor trick. It's pretty unlikely that you'll hear the knock, but it will f-up your car. Also, I'm not certain about this, but I think a real working KS still has more power than a resistor.
If it is bad you will definitely notice a difference when you replace it. JRnissan is selling some for $85 now. They don't come in the Box, but they are the same thing. Check the 4th gen forsale forum.

If you want the resistor, Radio Shack has them, got one today, less than $2 bucks.
Incredible coincidence but I'm gonna do the resistor bypass tomorrow to see if I'm really missing out on a lot before I drop $85+ on a knock sensor. I'm sure I'm missing out on something after reading the stickies but I want to know if it's $85+ dollar's worth.
As far as the harness, I don't think it's the problem, the knock sensor is prone to die and most likely it's dead, not the harness.

This way the car's wiring will read the needed resistance and think the KS is fine.
The resistor's leads are some what delicate and if bent too many times will break off so I soldered on some wires to the resistor to allow more flexibility in splicing it in.

It's worth it (butt dyno = off teh charts). Don't bother with the 470 resistor.
Did The Bypass!!!!!
I think it worked! I can feel the car pull harder now. I checked the ECU for codes and the 0304 check is gone! Now, when I enter diagnosis mode, I get 0505 which indicates NO failure detected! WOOHOO!! Gonna order a knock sensor right now!
On a side note, how long can I keep that 470K resistor plugged in in place of the KS? IS it bad for the car? Will it like start a fire? I wanna keep my new found HP, and I'm willing to drive around w/o a knock safety net for 2 weeks until i get home from college.
Thanks.

So I did 3 things to my car this weekend.
First I cleaned out the air intake until spotless. Next I put on my new short-ram air intake from eBay. Went for a drive. City driving seemed the same but highway driving seemed better although it may be the new sound from the intake that makes it seem I'm going faster.
Then I did the resistor bypass for the knock sensor and the butt dyno definitely registered. Very nice. Will definitely get the knock sensor after the holidays.
