every mod i do, one thing goes wrong... how about u?

so everytime i do something to the maxi, something always goes wrong.

(1) red/clear tails: one point of the taillight melted and sticks out when mounted.

(2) headlight harness: lost the black screw that holds in the piece of plastic on the passenger side headlight.

(3) clock always illumination: snipped the wire, next day climate controls go out

(4) redo-ing leds in hazard defrost: spent 8 hours trying to figure out how the hazard clicks in. if u have the same problem, pm me, the small metal bar has to be copmletely straight.

(5) pcv valve: lost one of the hose clamps in the engine bay, broke plastic clip holding wires down

(6) ghetto shortram intake: bent the crap out of the gold piece (ghetto maf adaptorr) on the stock box; ended up taping with duct tape.

i'm afraid to do anything now cuz something always goes wrong. anyone else with my crappy luck? or is it just me that God finds amusing

when i upgraded to 9007 bulbs i went to re-aim then and the black plastic part that you turn to adjust stripped right off of the adjuster screw.
plus numerous other things, just like you are saying.

1. bolt broke off in header, needed it drilled
2. sts install bolt stuck in cat, drilled out
3. front clears, guess the male end didnt go right in the female end on the passenger corner light and ~poof~ lost on a highway somewhere
4. CAI install lost 3 bolts god knows where, CAI didnt fit the template and had to "improvise".
5. Front strut bar install, everything was easy. got it on and left. Then wondered where my shades were i thought to myself going 85 down the road.... oh ya i hung them on my rear view mirror outside.......

god hates me... lol but its all fixed at least.

1. DIY tail light clears: Mine did go fine but i completely melted my brother's tail light. My brother ended up buying CE Clear tails. $150
2. Home made intake : I bought all the pipes and required stuff, but couldn't make a right size hole. Ended up buying E-bay Intake. about $60.
3. Strut Install : First Maxspeed/GR-2 went fine but when i upgraded my spring from maxspeed to sprint, I torqued one bolt too hard, I had to trash GR2 and get Illuminas which was $408.
4. HID Balast : I didn't mount it well so it fell onto one of the pulleys, and I had to buy replace one for around $100.

And I'm planning on doing 5spd conversion by myself

Changed the mirror, stripped one of the bolts.
Put in a tv and a head unit, climate controls and the rear defoger stoped iluminating.
Put in the guage rings, the plastic surrounding got cracked.

Thats all I could remember for now, but I still love modding.

DIY red/clear tails, i pulled slightly too hard and cracked the corner of my tail light, hot-glued it back on and it works/ its hardly noticeable but still sucks

1. When trying to install indiglo gauges, I pulled the needles straight up off of the gauge to slip the gauges on, big mistake. They didn't go back on right; time for a new $50 SE gauge cluster.

2. When installing CAI I ran into too many problems to list, but it got done... 12 hours later.

Wow, I'm surprised at how many people had trouble with the 97-99 red/clears, I thought it would be easy, but what do I know I own a 96.

Yeah I did the worst thing,
A year and a half ago I was Trying to do the drop resistor mod, then Broke the crap out of my tranny. I unpluged the sensor when the car was on, then I drove for a little and like an Idiot I N-droped my car. hehehe, you know what happens next.

Doing the Bright trick with the wrong type of lights to the front clearance lights, one of the lenses where to hot, and I bent it, and craked it. so now theres been a crack in it for about 4months now.

I know the feeling but most of these "problems" are human error. Don't lose your stuff!

I don't do too much to my car since I know one day I will be doing something, and I will burst into flames on the freeway.

My problems are the compromises you have to make with modifications even when you install them right:

1) Y-pipes add additional vibration. It's not horrible, but gone is the VQ's ultra-smooth nature. The Y-pipes can also cause a grainy vibration in the clutch pedal because the y-pipe doesn't use the OEM y-pipe to engine block mount.

2) UDPs cause vibration and hurt driveability in the 5 speed plus they don't make you any quicker as verified by numerous track passes made by yours truely.

3) Lowering the car (regardless of make of spring) will give you a harsher ride, bottoming out, bounciness (even if you've got good struts), and more road noise.

4) Adding larger rims will give you a harsher ride and more road noise.

5) Larger exhausts have a tendencey to hit portions of the chassis, primarily the beam and trailing arms.

6) STS add shifter vibration, move the shift pattern forward, and are resistent to get into gear.

7) MEVI= a lack of lowend punch. With the MEVI's powerband and the stock gearing, each gear becomes too long for optimal acceleration.

8) RSB causes suspension bind, harsh ride, and spooky at the limit handling when the car is lowered.

9) ES swaybar and endlink bushings cause vibration and noise.

My Maxima has been a huge learning experience on what and what not to do to a car. My next car will be a G35 sedan which I'll put the 04+ 350Z springs/struts on (1" drop), intake manifold, ECU, and a stall converter,. That's it. I'm not bothering with rims, exhausts, and other things that really compromise the car. I'll get a project car for going all out.

Nothing ever goes right whenever im modding. For example, struts and y-pipe should take a couple hours each but it ended up taking 2-3 days because of stripped nuts/bolts, wrong tools, weather, etc.

this is the basis for the colloquialism "don't fix it if it ain't broke"... but you can't let that stop you. realizing the difficulty only makes you appreciate beautifully modded cars more...

Yes you are not alone with the modding bug bitting you then giving you poison and leaving you to die. I've had problems with the mods that I buy.
1.The STS i bought had notchy feel to it and was unbareable to drive until I got some redline MT fluid.
2. My MEVI has not really been fully functional since I bought it (but I think that my RPM switch is flaking out on me), and
3. My y-pipe has finally given in to making a "bees-in-the-cans" sound all the time. (I really need to get that fixed).

Sometimes mods come with a "may **** up if not properly installed" label.

Most of these are your own fault due to stupidity. Take your time. Its like rushing through a test. There is no point in modding if you aren't going to do it well and pay attention to detail. I'm not saying I haven't messed up.

Wow, I thought I suck in mods. LOL! I feel the pain. I changed the radiator this weekend. Everything works, but I cut my hand in a couple of places. Let's hope the stuff from Taiwan won't break that easily.

Did the mod in the gauge, crack the housing.

Hide the CD changer cable, crack one of the steps.

Change one of the light bulb with a screw driver, fried the fuse.

I effed up my shifter! my friggin shifter! got the shiny one from custommax, yea its plastic by the way, a real POS. anyway, pushed down too hard and the button popped off., its only held on by 2 plastic tabs(again, what a POS) so now the shifter is on and the button is sitting in the house on the table with the tabs crazy glued back on. I doubt they'll hold.
