I will let you know right off that I have seen somewhere that these windshields can cost as much as $1,000. But, I live in Oklahoma (you know the kind of place where people are always telling me "Must be nice to drive a Bee Emm Dubbua!.....It's not a BMW ya backwoods bastard!!!....ooops got on another subject )...land of the good ol' boys... and my insurance agent is kinda good with this auto body repair guy so I am getting mine for $500. The repairman actually TOLD me that they cost $800 and he gives a 50% discount (hmmm) with labor and everything comes to $511. $100 deductable so that is all I pay!

PS... just watch out for rattles... take it out for a spin after the job is done, and make sure it doesn't vibrate at higher speeds...

Hehehe... you gotta use scientific notation to express costs for foreign car repairs.. :-)

1x10^3 dollars = 1 Kilodollar !!! makes sense :-)

I had to have the windshield replaced in my wife's GXE TWICE in two months. All I can say is, it's a good thing we carry $100.00 deductible comprehensive coverage on our auto insurance.

Due to a scheduling problem I had to wait another week for my windshield to be replaced..they are working on it as I write this. They had to have my car all day. He is the BEST auto-body / glass installer in my county.

Anyway, he said that he wanted to take his time with it because Nissan glass fits in extremely precise. He also wanted it to sit in the sun for a while before I drive it.

Wish me luck

Make sure that

You check to make sure they cleaned all glass out of the car and that they did not scratch the hood where they brushed the glass off your hood.
That they put the rubber seal in correctly and it lines up smoothly with no gaps or curls and stuff. If you see and they state that it will lie down, make them write it on the receipt.
That it has some kind of life time garauntee because you are going to have to check for water leaks. I recommend going to a car wash, self section and taking the sprayer and hosing the area down with water. This should be done after the curing time.

I had a 95 probe and I kid you not they replaced the window 4, count em 4 times and still did not get it correct. I finally just gave up and got a Max. I had problems with everything above and wish you the best of luck with your replacement.

Oh yeah leave the windows cracked a little bit when you shut the doors until the glue dries.

I have a pretty indelible streak that shows up whenever the windshield gets wet. It was created by the right wiper. I tried cleaning the wipers and windex like hell but no luck. My next step is Rain-X

That streak wouldnt happen to be at the furthest most traver of the right wiper would it? I have a vertical mark there that just refuses to go away.

I agree...nissan glass is horrible!! My windshield is pitted worse in less than a year than my Celica GTS's was in almost 10 years....jeeesh....

you will not believe

I bought my car on a saturday i remember, i decided to go on the highway with it for the first time ride.
Saturday night by accident i noticed a huge hold in the windshield. I was depressed. It sucked. Well, now i know that the NIssan Maxima aint all that. Brakes, PAINT, windshield. Windnoise.
Oh well, i love it

My streak occurs where the lower tip of the right wiper touches the glass.

Thanks for your advice.

Got my windshield replaced Friday and everything looks good so far. No wind noise, all the seals around it look GOOD! The installer recommended, as you did, to leave a window cracked for a few days.

Windshields OEM or Aftermarket

Has anyone had there windshield replaced and managed to find a windshield with more tint in the glass then what the car came with.

I had my windshield repaired from a stone chip and I asked the owner if the Nissan glass was better quality then the after market brand. He said there should not be any difference between the glasses except the price. He went on to say that the glass could come from the same factory. Does anyone have any comments or their own experiences regarding this.
