winter wax

i was told that u could put wax on your car b4 the winter and take it off after the winter and the harded wax would help to protect the paint from salt and stuff, theres alot of salt where i live, just wondering if anyone does this, or if itll damage my paint?

Do you mean apply wax before the winter and not buff it off until after? If so, I've never heard of anyone doing that and I would imagine your car would look horrible all winter if you did...

If you mean just applying a coat of wax and then buffing it off so that your car is protected all winter, then that makes much more sense. Most people who care for their cars put a wax or polymer sealant on their cars at ALL times of the year, but are especially vigilant with it before winter because it is one of the harsher times for your paint.

WTH? no. don't let wax dry on your paint for 4 months. Just get a durable wax to apply before winter that will last through the winter.
I used 2 coats of FourStar Ultimate Paint Protection, and 2 coats of Meg's #16 Paste Wax on top. I'd be fine until spring, but I'll still wax the car again on Christmas Break, which is 33 days long for me (college winter break ).

BTW, have you seen the thread for the WI/IL detailing meet in the regional forums? Chime in if you're interested.

that doesnt make much sense at all. ive heard of people putting wax on their rims to prevent dirt/salt/break dust, but putting wax on the whole car would probably be worse because it means u cant really wash it that whole time. whats better, washing it? or keeping it unwashed w/ wax? i will go w/ washing it.
