All this talk about rims...I have a few ?'s of my own...
I am thinking about aftermarket rims on my Maxima, although I am very happy with the standard SE wheels.
I have thought about it and decided that 17" would be the ideal size because it will be the cheapest (versus 18"+) and tires will be cheaper too.
I really like the look of the Konig Villains.

The size I am interested in is 17"x8", which weighs about 20 lbs. Is that heavy for a 17"x8" wheel without a tire?
I've only checked two sites for prices so far. Konigwheels.com says the suggested retail price is about $250/wheel. I went to Discounttire.com as well, and they sell them for $175/wheel. Is this a fair price for these wheels?
That brings us to tires...
I was hoping to get the wheels and tires all together mounted and balanced for about $1200 or less if possible. So, if I were to purchase the rims for $175, the total for the four rims is $700. That leaves me about $500 for tires and mounting and balancing and blah blah blah. What is a good tire for this price range? What would be the ideal size for a 17"x8" wheel??
Thanks so much for any help! It is much appreciated!

My 17s weight 19 lbs each, which I think is pretty good. Some wheels are as light as 15 lbs., but they are really expensive. As for the prices, I've seen those wheels in the Discount Tires store for a lot less than that - maybe $120 apiece. And I really like my Dunlops, which you should be able to get for under $500.
big bunch of wheel info
I've been thinking about getting wheels myself for a while now…

Yeah, well, anyway, I want dark rims -
anthracite, gunmetal, maybe even black.
Here's what I've been lookin' at:
Kosei K1 Racing
16 x 7.5 - 15.5 lbs. [$159ea @ TireRack]
Kosei K1 Racing
17 x 7.5 - 16.7 lbs. [$199ea @ TireRack]
This size is not available in anthracite though
SSR Competitions [aka: Type-C]
16x7 11.0
16x8 12.1
17x7.5 12.7 [$375ea @ TireRack]
17x8 13.1
SSR Integral
17x7 17.0 - 16 or 17 lbs.? [$299ea @ TireRack]
17x8 18.0
Tenzo R - AV7 [Gunmetal]
17 x 7 - 20 lbs. [$165ea @ scvmotorworks.com]
Team Loco 142
16 x 7 - 22 lbs. [$139ea @ TireRack]
TSW Revo - now available in anthracite!
17 x 7 - 25 lbs. - prolly around $175 each
17 x 8 - 25.75 lbs.
Kosei Racing Seneka
16 x 7 - 19.0 lbs. [$169ea @ TireRack]
TSW Big Deep
17 x 7 - 23.25 lbs.
O.Z. F1 Cup
17 x 7 - 25 lbs. [$250ea @ TireRack]
18 x 8 - 25.3 lbs.
OZ F1 Plus
17 x 7.5 - 24/26 lbs.?
Tenzo - SHU - 4 [Gunmetal]
17 x 7 - 19 lbs. / 42 offset
18 x 7.5 - ?? lbs. / 42 offset
Volk Racing- (race applications) TE37
15x6.0 8.1 lbs.
15x6.5 8.8 lbs.
15x7 9.2 lbs.
16x7 11.2 lbs.
17x7.5 15.0 lbs.
And my conclusion?
Well, I'm still trying to make up my mind.
I want a 17" wheel because I want a lower profile tire.
I just think they look more aggressive with a thinner sidewall.
BUT - I want the Kosei K1s most of all -
and they don't make the 17" in anthracite.
So I figure I'll go with the Kosei K1s - 16", anthracite.
They'll weigh less than the 17" K1s - and the stock SE 16" wheels.
They'll cost less than the 17" wheels.
And the tires will cost less too.
But maybe I could get the 17" wheels and have 'em powdercoated…
[stripping $40 each, powder coating, $30 each - a bargain!]
Maybe I'll get the 16" wheels and run lower profile tires…
Maybe I'll get the SSR Competitions - these beauties weigh just 12.7 lbs. each!
And they cost just $375 each!! A mere pittance.
Well, maybe not. And, luckily, I like the way the K1s look more…
But what meat to put on these rims?
People like:
Kumho Ecsta Supra 712
215 / 55 / 16 - 25 lbs.
235 / 45 / 17 - 27 lbs.
Yokohama Avid HAV4
215 / 55 / 16 - 24 lbs.
235 / 45 / 17 - 26 lbs.
Sumitomo HTR ZII
215 / 55 / 16 - xx lbs. NOT AVAILABLE -
205 / 50 ZR 16 $89-tirerack
235 / 45 / ZR 17 - xx lbs. $115-tire rack
sales@CustomWheelsandTires.com
and also - Bridgestone Potenza RE 730s and Turanza Revos, Dunlop, Falken, Michelin, Nitto, Pirelli….
I haven't driven on them, but a lot of people like the Sumitomo HTR ZII - and they look so suhweet. But they don't come in 215 / 55 / 16. [Damn them.]
If I do end up with the 16" K1s, I'm thinking of slapping on some Kumho Ecsta Supra 712
and getting some real snow tires for my stock wheels and using them in the winter [I live in the lovely northeast winter wonderland].
Plus, I think I'll keep one of 'em in the trunk 'stead of that POS spare.
"Keep speed under 55 MPH". What????? Is that possible?
Any thoughts/input appreciated...

woa..
haha....
I came across a website in my hunt for rims which had a list of links similar to that one..... it's easy to CUT AND PASTE..
We'll, after searching and searching for the best overall rim for me, depending on looks, quality and weight... I decided to go with ROH Reflex 16 X 7"
Reasons:
-16's because I wanted something that can be paired with fairly good all season tires for under 100$ each, with 17's a good all-season tire such as a P7000 costs around 150$ each! that's 600$ on tires alone! where I ended up paying less then half of that for 4 brand new Sumitomo HTR4's...=O)
-Paid only around 130$ per rim
-They only weigh 15.5 lbs each
-They look pretty good, didn't think a lot of people have them but found out like 4 3rd gen members have them on their rides.
I was going to go with the 2k 5-spokes and best deal was around 550$, but those weigh 20lbs each.. don't know if that makes much of a difference.... They certainly look better but I picked the Reflex rims because of weight, that aftermarket look, 7" width and the fact that these come with a warranty, all mounting equipment like lugs, valve stems etc.. and brand NEW.
Shop around dude,
When I have $$$.... I'll get a set of 18's for the summer time.. and use the 16's for winter, just put some winter tires on, but that will not be anytime soon judging by the way my car is acting now....
Oh yea, the Sumitomo tires weigh around 25 lbs each, I have the 225/50/16.

dsmercado - as Medicsonic noticed, I've been thinking about this for a while.
My first concern was purely cosmetic - what the wheels looked like.
As I learned more, I wanted the wheels to be light as well.
And finally, they couldn't be too expensive.
So it took me a while to zero in on what I wanted and as I looked around
I just book-marked all the sites that seemed useful/interesting.
NYCeMaXiMa - cut & paste my a**.
That was a labor of love.
[Is it sick for a man to love a wheel?]
That Roh wheel looks nice - and pretty light too.
LIfe - I took a look around for you.
Generally Tire Rack can beat almost anybody's prices.
[I guess because of the volume of business they do they can cut their margins thinner.]
And their service is supposed to be good.
I haven't dealt with them yet, but I will be buying my wheels/tires from them soon - next week I hope.
Anyway, sorry but they don't carry Neeper.
So - not many sites seem to carry Neeper,
and - on the ones I could find - not all of them show that they have the Fly.
[I list all the urls anyway, I figure they just don't have it on the site.]
And none of the sites I found showed prices
- so you'll have to shop around yourself…
You can probably find other places with a few searches on google etc.

Good luck, hope this helps.
Let us know what you find out.

What do you mean, "What about"?
Tire Rack has em on sale now:
17 x 7 for $199
18 x 8 for $249
The 18 x 8s weigh 25.25 lbs.
- which I think is a bit on the heavy side.
Couldn't find a weight for the 17 x 7s.
if that's what you mean...
Or do you mean do I like 'em?
I think they look ok,
not too nuts about the centercap in gold though.
But if you like em, well go right ahead.
$199 isn't too bad.
You can spend a pile more without half trying.
You might look for something lighter,
but if your only interest is cosmetic
and you like the way the look, them slap em on and go.
If you look at my first post though, you'll see I want dark wheels.
I finally decided on the Kosei K1s based on combo of weight / price / looks.
But I was bumming becuse I wanted 17" wheels and lower profile tires
and the K1s only came in Anthracite in the 16" size.
But, since they redid their site, Tire Rack now shows the
K1s in in anthracite in 17".
Horray.
Gotta check the bank account, but I plan to order next week.
Did that answer your question?

most places have an easy way to contact them either email or 800 #...
just ask if they carry them and how much they cost
[and don't forget to ask about $ for S&H]
