Installed new wheel bearing, still noisy
Installed new wheel bearing, still noisy
I recently installed a new rear wheel bearing about two weeks ago. Since then SOME of the noise and a little vibration is still there between certain speeds (I would say 30-65MPH). Since then I have throughly checked each wheel for movement and they are all tight as a rock. It is NOT a brake dust guard making the noise.
When I installed the new bearing I did not grease anything because it comes as a sealed unit (NOT like the front where you need to manually press in the bearings). Should I have greased the inner area of the assembly when I put it in? I am not sure if this assembly is called the "bearing assembly" or not but it goes onto the axel spindle. I don't remember the Nissan CD telling me to grease anything but I may have missed it. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Mark

Good question. I have Traction T/As on the back currently. Front tires are new and car is in alignment. When my tractions (currently in the rear) were on the front the car had a toe alignment problem (tires canted / \). I have looked at the tires and they seem ok but I guess it could be the tires. They still have decent tread so I do not want to ditch them (spent 150 a tire). They are also a harder compund tires so I guess it could be causing the noise. It just seems like it is more of a harder material sound at times. Almost sounds like I have one studded tire in the rear.
Another thing to mention is the sound is between the average bearing revolution sound : wooo, wooo, wooo and the studed tire sound wooooooooooo. Know what I mean? It does not have the consistancy of a bearing sound. A bearing sound is so consistant with every wheel revolution you can almost time it with a stop watch.

it has to be the tires... the constant woooo is the sound of tire warp or whatever the word is.... I had the Potenzas RE040 the Z ones, lasted 6 months... need to replace them.......back to normal Potenzas again... GOD they SUCK big time.... waiting until they go bad to get Continental or something else...
I believe it is called radial slap or something to that degree. Is it that bad though. Sometimes the noise/vibration seems too harsh to be radial tire problems. My gut tells me tires are only contributing to the sound/vibrations. I was driving home this morning (3AM) and at 70 MPH the noise/vibrations do NOT EXIST! Weird. Only at certain speeds on certain roads. I know for a fact it is not the road though

Generally, performance tires are gonna be louder than A/S or touring tires...
