95 max se still trouble starting in cold weather

Hello, I still havnt found a definate answer on why my car sometimes wont start up in the cold. Ive found 10 different things it could be but no ones actually sure. Heres what happens usually in cold weather it will always turn over but the rpms will go up to 1500-1700 then drop down to 0 and stall unless i give it some gas. Its also random last 2 days have been 18 degrees and it hasnt done it. But When its on a full tank of gas it never happens so im thinking its the fuel injectors or something. Some one also suggested that its my TPS sensor? If no one can give me a halfway decent answer then im just gonna bring it to nissan see what they have to say. Does Anyone have any suggestions ?

When was the last time you had your fuel filter changed? It could be pretty clogged up, which may not affect your starts on warm days, but could on cold ones.

Does it throw any codes, or have you tried to pull any codes? Usually when you have a "No Start condition" it will keep a code in your ECU....I think

If you can't repeat the syptoms, you will most certainly waste your money at Nissan. You will waste your money anyway.
I woud suggest changing your engine coolant temperature sensor. It is a common sensor that goes bad over time. Specifcally the pin attached to the sensor get coated with a layer of junk and doesn't work as well as before. You can pick one up for between $20-40 and its an easy part to replace.

Second, I would suggest going to your local pep boys or autozone and get your battery, starter and alternator checked out. You should always rule those three out first.
Let us know how you make out.

DC,

Just posted to Jigg's about this problem. I had a problem that was very similar to yours. This went on for 1 1/2 winters. My 97 Max. would do jsut about the same thing as you describe and then when the spring/summer months came around problem would disappear. I also changed the coolant sensor and it didn't fix the problem. What I ended up doing was giving the throttle body a real good cleaning!! Mine was so messed up with oil it took me an hour to get it good and clean. Since I have down this the Max. has started and remains started on cold New England mornings. It's cheap and easy. Remove all of the air intake components and spray carb/throttle body cleaner into the throttle body. Let it sit for about 5 - 10 minutes and then wipe with a clean rag. repeat about 3 - 4 times or until you don't see oil dripping for the inside the throttle body. I belive that the web site Motorvate http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php also shows how to do this.

I'm having the same problem and want to clean the TB too. Stupid question but how to I get to the throttle body? Do I just remove the air intake pipe? thanks.
