I have a Borla Pro XS Muffler. It is universal and has to be fitted to your car. It is a straight through design, so lots of flow. The stainless steel design makes it seem bulletproof. I have mine combined with a budget y pipe, budget b pipe (with the magnaflow res.). I personaly like the sound of my car. It is very low and not buzzy like a honda at all. Tough it is substantialy louder than stock esp at WOT. Another nice thing about the proxs muffler is that it looks very stock since it is an oval shape, but has just as good flow as any of those ricy mufflers. The only downside is that since it is universal you have to find a good shop that will fit it on. I had to order 2.5 in. stainless steel piping and have it mandrel bent to hook up to the b pipe. Then the guy put a flange on the extension piece to connect it to the b pipe and used a U clamp to hook the other end of the pipe to the borla muffler. I didnt want any welds in my exhaust. This kind of work requires a somewhat skilled mechanic. hope this info helps

I've heard only good things about Borla and their exhausts, I've heard a few on BMW's and they sound oh so good.

i also have a borla pro xs muffler installed. the exhaust starts with a budget ss ypipe, stock cat, courtesy bpipe, and the muffler welded on by an exhaust shop. it's not as nice as Dstyle by his description, but it works. it's pretty loud if you're not used to an "aftermarket exhaust." it's mellow when you're by yourself and cruising then turns aggressive when you punch it to high revs. it's also noticeably louder when the car is loaded with passengers and the air condition is used. the biggest problem i have now is not the muffler, it's my bpipe. i think it hangs too low causing the rear axle to bump it during hard bumps. everything is worse when people are sitting in the back seat. does anyone else have this problem? i would like to swap out my exhaust during the spring for a better bpipe and perhaps a bigger borla pro XL muffler in hopes of a more refined sound. it's great now, but it doesn't have to be loud especially when i'm going to have a 350whp silvia to make noise instead.

I installed a Borla exhaust on my RX-7. It was awesome but I am not sure I would put it on my new Max. Little deep and a little louder.

If Borlas universal mufflers are anything like their Z28 exhaust systems, just bad *** sounds then Borla is probably a good muffler too get.

But I don't have one on my car. All I know is Borlas quality is top notch, and their Z28 exhaust is the best exhaust I have ever heard in my entire life. I say give it a shot and post some sound clips if you decide too get it!

???

thats a really bad way to describe a product. my magnaflow is ****ing loud. really deep and mean souinding..and thats with a resonator. the only problem i have with it is mine drones on the highway sometimes. without my y pipe is was perfect. once i added it it got really loud...but i like it...

borla makes excellent products.
so does magnaflow.

I would give the Borla a try. I don't think you will regret it. However, be prepared for a slightly louder ride. You can see what I have on my car, and I don't get any drone on the Highway. One of the main reasons I chose it was because it has combined performance with "stock" like looks.

japmaxSE, Put you Cat back on, you might not realize it but you car probably sounds like Sh** without it.

cat, no cat. they're about the same. actually without the cat you can hear the little backfires more when you back off the throttle which i miss. ironically, with the cat on i think it has a slightly higher pitched drone on throttle. the volume stays about the same. only the driver will be able to tell the difference with the cat on and off. its hard to describe, but the frequencies are slightly different at a given rpm range with overall volume being the same. engine response "seems" better without the cat obviously, but my times are only hundreths slower with the cat (not accounting for a full year hiatus from the drag strip and a ton of commuter miles). so no real difference for the amount of pollution you're putting into the air. the good thing with the cat on is you don't get the nasty raw exhaust smell!

You’re absolutely right, being that I took off the cat results in loud drowning in the car while cursing. Yeah you will hear more backfires when backing of the throttle, most people wouldn't like it to be that loud but I'm just a nit pick when it comes to squeezing every ounce of performance in my car. I really don't care that my car may sound a bit too loud. But for some reason it sounds awesome at cursing speeds but when you hit WOT it's just ridiculously loud. I have a video driveby as soon as I get it you will see what I'm talking about.
