Anybody have this problem? I thought there was a TSB out. My hood moves quite a bit during highway speeds. If it is an easy fix or part I will probably do it myself. Any suggestions?

Mark, for some reason, this is like really common on '02s and some '03s but strangely, not very common on 00s and 01 -mine's never done that.

And yes, there is a TSB and it involves re-bonding the sheet metal skin of the hood to the stamped steel cross-braces, installing a foam 'pack' on top of the headlights to minimize air coming in thru there and 'fluttering' and possibly other stuff that I ca'nt recall right now....

So yes, go see your friendly dealer and tell them it's their problem and post result!

Would this be covered under some sort of factory recall situation? My car is well out of the factory warranty period (just bought it used) and have noticed this happening. I just had the MAF situation fixed (also a TSB) and had to pay out-of pocket for its repair.

 

It's not a recall.

Ask if they'll do it "good faith" or just say please. It costs them about $8 to do the fix so they might just do it hoping to keep a customer.

If they won't cover it, read the TSB and buy a bunch of JB Weld and weatherstripping and do it yourself.

 

Sometimes it can be fixed by raising the rubber hood stop on the driver's side. Sometimes the hood brace welds have come loose, but not on all maxes.

There is a way to adjust the entire hood latch assembly also (to have the hood close tighter). I think that info is in the FSM and may not be a part of the TSB.

 

As bad as it may sound, take some clear tape, and wrap it around the latch, it seems to have done the trick for me. You can probably wrap a very thin rubber hose around it. As I said, I know it sounds sh1tty, but it works.
