Saturday was not my day (long)

[rant]On Saturday, I was going to pick my girl up and i turned on her side street that had a cop on it. My car downshifted and ever since i put the straight pipe on, wot has been real loud. So i park in my girl's driveway and get out and he pulls in behind me with his lights on. Oh great. I reach for my wallet, oh yeah its sitting on the kitchen table. I grad for my insurance, oh whoops, forgot to put the updated card in my glove compartment. I think to myself, "im screwed"

So then he comes up and blah blah blah, i give him all of my information (i have my license # memorized for these type of occasions) he says that my exhaust is too loud and statute of limitations this and blah blah that. I cam back with decibel levels, california exemption and whatever else i can come up with on the spot. He says that we're not in Cali and wants to show me the book. I looked at the statute and it was about modifying and if it is louder than oem, but that was just for noise level. I was looking around at the other ones involving exhaust and it never said anything else about size or whatever bs he was trying to tell me. I told him thank you for letting me know and i would consider changing it in the future (I already considered it and i'm not changing.)

The other thing was is that he said that i was going 38 in a 25. I had to turn on my girl's street and she lives 10 houses down. There is absolutely no way that i could have gone that fast and then stopped in her driveway. I just dont think that he could lock on to get a reading so thats what he estimated.

Anyway, I guess I am pretty lucky and he just gave me a warning. Can i tell y'all that there is nothing like getting pulled over in your significant other's driveway? I got to hear it for the rest of the day that i had to be careful cuz its snowing and i shouldn't speed. I should have heeded her advice.

After I went to the grocery store to pick supplies to make pigs in a blanket (x-mas party platte contribution), there is a turn around the Jr. High over by my house and oh wait, my brakes lock up. I know how to counteract this, its happened to me before. I try to turn and pump, let off pump, but i keep sliding. WHACK right into the curb. No body damage, but i thought that it may be a flat. Nope, but i can feel the limp that my driver's side wheel is giving me. My house is a block and i pull into the driveway and look at the rim. Its a borbet type-e, 5-spoke and clearcoated. The clearcoat is all torn up and i notice that one of the spokes is bent in and the clearcoat is cracked. The tire is fine, but the rim is totally bent.

ugh

Sorry buddy but I have to agree with Tom, you need to slow down for your own safety! I know you don't wanna hear this.. but if your brakes locked up on a turn, you were going too fast for the conditions. Trust me, I've done it twice and bent wheels both times.

Anyways I feel your pain, you can probably get the wheel straightened and repainted for about $180 shipped. There's only a couple places that do it around the country, if you can't find a local one try Ye Olde Wheel Shoppe in Elkridge, MD. They've straightened by wheels twice and repainted the whole set. They do great work. Good luck and sorry to hear about your misfortune(s)!

i agree about the turn, i was going about 15 and its a sharp turn. i admit fault on that one. These rims were pretty chewed up in the 1st place, i bought them used. I'm looking for something lighter, but i was hoping to wait till spring.

If it makes you feel better...

When i drove my Jeep to work 2 weeks ago (when it was SUPER ICY in the morning), i pulled into the parking lot going 15mph TOPS, i tried braking and realized that the whole lot was glazed. Tried braking a bit more, neutral, downshifting, EVERYTHING - but the car kept on sliding. (Mind you i had PLENTY of room, but there was no friction ANYWHERE.) Needless to say i slammed into the curb with my right front tire at an angle and got a flat. I thought I popped the tire, but no - i bent the rim. Now i've gotta get another alignment as well. ARGH! I feel your pain steve. [/my rant]

Exact same thing happened to me. He came to my house when he heard my exhaust and gave me a tickect for speeding "based" on the sound of my car he could tell i was accelerating rapidly. i went to court and won but i always was under the impression once your on private property they cannot do anything but i guess i was wrong. this was in my 240Sx not max but same situation he tried to give me BS about my exhaust.

Glad to hear you got out of it bud. Sorry bout the rim. You need some nice light ones anyway.

Zack, if you would've been in a Max you wouldn't have gotten a ticket.

sorry to hear that bro but you do need to slow down in anyway, esp if the cop has given you a warning he may be looking for you the next time he is on the street or on patrol. I have cops like that around me and i hate it more than you would ever think.

They can stop you anywhere if you have committed any violations in their eyes.

You got off easy. My brother burned out after a stop, and then drifted into the turn in his SC430. His (at the time, now wife) fiancee's house took up the whole block and she lives across the street from Queens' biggest high school. There's typically undercover cops there all the time and he got pulled over right in front of her house. You got lucky, he didn't. He got a citation for criminal court for wreckless driving. He won, though and nothing happened but a fine. :P

Sorry to hear it, Steve. Hope you didn't mess up anything besides the rim.
