What about for a non-fency battery that still performs well. I am sure there must be costing much less then optima.

if you have a big radio system i would go with the light gray bottom optima that is the deep cycle one and you would be fine i have a red top optima but i have the factory radio system (bose) i have had for two years and it works great

the best for cold weather would be an Optima marine battery it has the highest cold cranking amp rating. im running 3000 watts of stereo RMS on a stock alternator and in - degree weather this sucker cranks over no problem

Here's the link from a few days ago, personally and my pals (owns a battery shop!) thoughts are the Optima is complete overkill, but eh if you have the bucks to burn they look................... nice!

I just corrected myself on the post MAXRB8 mentioned. It was the Advanced Auto batteries that Consumer Reports recommended. I mistakenly said Autozone batteries. Anyway, if you are interesed in buying a battery, go to the library and read the article. It doesn't make any sense to buy a batter (i.e., an Optima), because it looks cool. If you can get a Diehard or Advanced Auto battery that is just as good, or, God forbid I say it, "Better," then why spend the money?

I will say that Optimas are great for the fact that they are sealed and therefore should never leak acid on your battery tray. So if you are concerned about rust or the overall look of your engine bay, then they are nice to have.
