grinding noise when starting

latley i have noticed a grinding noise right after my car starts. This seems to be most noticable when it is colder out and the car has been left over night. What could this be? I was thinking distributor possibly. Any ideas?

It's the starter. I just fixed mine on Saturday. Over the years the grease in the gears dries up and causes the pinion gear to stick when starting in the cold. Resulting in the noise. It's easy to fix. Take your starter apart, clean out the old grease and regrease it. There is a website with step by step instructions but you'll need to search for it.
