I just bought a 2000 Maxima SE on Saturday. I have a little bit of play in the accelerator. I would say before actually getting power from stepping on the accelerator, play of about 1/8 to 1/2 of an inch is present. Is this normal? Can I fix this? Thank you.

On 2002+ there is no cable to adjust, it it computerized. You can reset the computer-check in the FAQs.

instant throttle response

The hesitation occurs only when I try to speed up in a higher gear at low RPMs. If I downshift before speeding up, I usually don't get this problem. In my previous car [02 SE-R Spec V], there was no hesitation. The car would just not pick up speed as fast if I was not in the optimum engine speed for that particular gear. I probably don't make any sense but I will search the FAQs and see if I can resolve this...
