your stock cat should be fine, if it is a burning smell it does not sound like your cat... look at all your brake calipers and make sure none of them are stuck and rubbing. if i were you i would drive around a bit get the burning smell, get out really quick and play find that smell!

If one of the brakes is stuck, you should be able to feel the heat standing just next to the wheel in question. My hand brake got stock once in an old car I had in college and I could barely get close to the wheel. Never used the hand brake again in that old beast.

Exactly...you should know if your brakes at any point and time are sticking. On top of the post I quoted, you would also notice slower acceleration, decreased gas mileage, and some extremely hot metallic smells. If you have all those symptoms, then it's the brakes. If not, then I say the stock cat is trying to die on you. Headers + catback + stock cat means that the stock cat has to do a lot more work that it's supposed, and this accelerates the decay of the element. It may also be that the stock cat is working OK but running hotter than normal as well (and it could be heat shielding you smell). You need to eliminate some possibilites and get back with us Cuban...
