got viynl paint, spraying dash this week

my car is in the shop getting the front tire fixed as you all know got messed up in my snow drifting accident. but as soon as its out i am painting the entire dash n stuff black.

my question is should i just cover everything w/ newspaper and then spray? or is there a way to take off the dash. ( im talking about the ENTIRE thing closest to the windshield).

i have tan leather and plan to paint everything black but the seats and headliner and any fabrics. i hope it will look good compared to the doodie brown current color.

any ideas?

if you have a haynes manual they have a section in there that shows how to take out the entire dash board.

I'd take it all out so you can have much more space to paint each piece, plus you dont want to be in the car panting and the fumes getting to you.

post some pics when you get done.

dont do it it will crack and flake off in a year. I hada body shop do it to my DSM with spray dye and it cracked after about a year. and its not that they didnt do a good job its that, its not a very good adhesion substance. I would learn how to fiberglass and then have it painted. Fiberglassing over a dash is easy. In fact that what i did to the dsm after the dye started to crack and flake. if u need to know how to glass hit me up on aim its really easy, just time consuming.

daaaamn, did you sand it all down properly?

what does it look like? can you still see the tan underneath.

dont forget that you'll need to put about 4-6 coats of paint to get a good look, and you must let each coat dry before applying the nestone. plus does you paint have gloss in it? if not then it will look flat and crappy till you get some gloss in it, or apply some clear coat to give it a shine and good finish.

I spray-painted my airbag cover 2 years ago and it still looks good. I also painted the entire dash in another car about 1.5 years ago using the same spray-paint and it still looks good. The paint I used is SEM vinyl spray-paint and I bought it at NAPA.
There are two important things you must do to make it look good - first, prep the suface,; I used fine grain sand paper and alcohol to prep/clean the surface; second, spray in very thin coats (fine mist rahter than spray) and try not to overlay too much, leave it about 20-30 mins to dry and repeat this 4-5 times or until you get the desired look. You must be patient; otherwise it will look like crap.
