I like the comfort and long life of my BFGoodrich HR4s'. HRs' give up a little in the handling department when compared to ZRs', but they more than make up for it when it's time to hit the highway or take that nice Sunday drive with the loved ones.

I have no experience with them in the snow, but I imagine they would perform well.

Tires

I have a set of Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 on my AE's 17" rims. I love these tires. If you are not sure, go test an Acura TL. I think these tires are stock on the Acura. Shows Honda has a little better taste in tires than Nissan. The stock Bridgestone Potenza RE92's stayed on my car for only 3 months.

I have 5400 miles on my 2001 se max 5 speed and i am trying to burn the **** out of my stock potenza's. These are the worst tires i have ever seen or felt on a car. I am going to replace them with 235/45 17 (potenza re730's or pirelli P7000 SS) i have not decided yet, but from what i have read these are both incredible tires. Hope it helps

I'm doing just fine with them....so far. But when I replace them it seems like Michelin are the tires to go with. What about the other Toyos? Are they any good? Like the H4, Z1, or FZ4?

So it is ok to put 235/45/17 on stock 17'' rims(that come with 225/50/17 rubber)?
Would it also be ok to put 225/50/16 on the stock 16'' rims?
I am sorry if this has been discussed, but how exactly does this work?

i've got 235/45ZR17 on my stock 17" rims...i have bridgestone potenza re730's and i notice a huge handling difference with these tires...the other day in the rain i was trying to get my car to slide on turns (i mastered a lot of the turns around my area when i had my re92's) and i couldn't even get my car to lose grip...

there are tons of great tires out there

bridgestone potenza pole position s02
bridgestone potenza re730
bf goodrich t/a kd
toyo proxes t1-s
michelin pilot sport
yokohama avs

tons of other great tires out there

Tires

An excellent tire at a good price is a Dunlop SP 5000
ride, wet & dry handling, and noise all improved over the stock Potenza's.

Discount Tire wouldn't give me any trade-in value on my Stock Potenza's with <1500 miles on them, what's that tell you about them?

I have had both the Michelin Pilot Sports and Pirelli P7000SuperSports on my car, and can speak very highly of both. The both have excellent wet and dry traction, tons of grip, are quiet, and both look good. Pirellis are way cheaper though. If you feel uncomfortable with the 235/45-17s, you can go with 225/45-17s. They are the maximum recommended tire size, and puts your speedometer off by 2%, or 1 MPH at 60 MPH.

tire swaps

Clearly, this won't be the popular option, but I recently replaced my Dunlop SP Sport 5000's (205/65/15 - stock on my Y2K GXE)with Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP's (225/60/15 on MAS MGR 15X7 wheels). Sounds like a laugher, eh? Until you pop onto the Tire Rack's Ultra High Performance Tire Survey - Numero Uno! Twenty five hundred miles of freeway, and about half again as much mountain driving (I live at the base of the Rockies). They stick to dry pavement like the Goodyear GSC's on my Contour SVT, never, ever squeal and I haven't yet found their limit. For you GXE/GLE owners, this will transform your handling without major suspension tweaks and without giving up the "ride" many of us prefer. I can only imagine what they'd do for an SE with major mods and 17" or 18" wheels in lower profiles. And the Firestone boys are willing to compete with the Tire Rack prices, too. BTW, I wouldn't expect much from them in the snow; buy some dedicated snows. I bet there will be some steals about now. My two pennies.

Too bad they're Bridgestone/Firestones.

Go to www.tirerack.com and check all the reviews and see what fits your needs. The "best" tire for someone in Arizona might not be the best tire for someone in Wa. state.

I for one, are very happy w/ my Kumhos(235-45-17) Probably the best buy for the $$ out there. Good grip in the dry and wet. But not the ultimate grip in the dry. But these tires are pretty quiet, have a pretty long tread life and is an agressive looking tire. Search for Kumho Esta Supra 712(not 711)
