Opinion on smoked taillights

What is your opinion on smoked taillights? I have an Onyx Max and I think blacked out taillights would look nice. Tell me what you think. Copy and paste these links. Here is a pic of a black jetta.

In my opinion, taillights are meant to be seen, the brighter the better. But hey, it's your car that might not be clearly seen.

I think you should read and take seriously that stickercity.com says that their smoke taillight kit is to be used for off-road and show use only in most states...

Agree with the two previous posts...this type of smoke sticker will land you a ticket. I've known 3 people that got tickets because of smoked tail lights. Also agree that tail lights are made to be seen...you ever get rear-ended...someone might use that against you...

Heres a pic of MAC's MAX. I think he's said hes been pulled over several times for them. But he used Niteshades. Its a film spray and it runs about 7.00 a can versus the 60+ kit. You can also but it at hobby shops. Its called window tint. I use it on my TMAXX bodies. (RC/nitro)

I like them and if they made the GTS style ones that were plastic that had velcro, would probably pick up a pair. Putting on the film kinda makes me nervous. Would also have to see how they function during the day for visibility. They look great I must say, but if I get rearended and the insurance company fights with tinted tail lights....you know what I mean.

Funny thing though.....it the Maxima the only car they do not make aftermarket tail lights for, Altima has quite a few, do not feel their Altezza look style, but is there anything for the Max? Last gen Max had some nice LED ones I have seen....

I'd look into it if they were "smoked" those are a bit too day imo.

Also Carcus it took the altima scene a long time to get where it is today. I was on altimas.net for about 4.5 years until recently leaving permanately and coming here. I think in time, they will offer some items for the 6th gen. It's not a big "tuner" so I can't see it happening right away....but I've been known to be wrong on occasion.

Well, I do see a liability problem regarding decreased visibility, but its not an overcomable problem,. The person hitting ur rear, if it happened, would have the burden of proving that the diminished light that MAY happen, was the actual cause of the accident, and but for the smoked lights, the accident would not have happened. Further, there is a 3rd brake light that is on as an added warning of brakes being applied.
With respect to the legality, most people put on "illegal" tint, and/or remove the cat when installing the y-pipe and/or headers and/or remove their front license plate. I think, as with window tint, if u put on a lightly smoked film on the lights, ur liability is minimized if not erradicated, and ur chances of being pulled over for it are minimized as well. WHat do u all think?
