all you do is unscrew it, it will be hard to get going but it is that simple.

Grab the shift ****, and begin twisting in a counter-clockwise direction (unscrewing it) keep doing that till its off, then you put a new one on, how you do that depends on what you got.

If you don't care if you ruin it then use visegrips. If you do car then use your hands. If it won't come off the use a heatgun or hairdryer or since you live in florida park it in the sun and maybe it'll get hot enough in there even this time of year. It's held on there by glue. It came right off on my '95, but some people have a hard time with it.

use a strap wrench, wont mess it up and you wont hurt your hands best of both worlds.

if you dont have a strap wrnch, grab a peice of cloth and place it over the ****, then use a vice grip, thats what i did, came out without a scratch.

Remove the entire shifter and replace it with a short throw.
