Keyless Entry & speeding problem

I own an 87 Nissan Maxima with keyless entry (the buttons on the doors). The car was a gift from my grandmother as my first car. Now of course she couldn't find the owner's manual.

Anyone have any information on how to reset or program or a default code the manufacturerer puts on?

Edit
----
Also, When I'm cruising down the highway, I can smell the car burning gas once it hits about 72 - 78 mph, anything under 65 i don't smell the gas though. Any ideas on what the problem is here?

If you look in the trunk, under the parcel shelf, there is a control box with a seven numbers.

With that code, you want to do the following:
Press C/ST, and input the 7 numbers. A continuous beep will sound for 6 seconds. During this time, enter the a code of between 5-7 characters. After the 6 seconds continous beep, you'll here a repeated beep that a new code has been registered.

As for the smell of gas. Check the fuel rail/injectors/fuel pressure regulator for leaks. Also check the fuel lines, fuel filter, as well as the fuel filler neck and vent. You might also check with a Nissan dealer to see if the injector recall. They'll need the VIN number off the car.

I heard that a bad O2 sensor will cause the fuel pressure regulator to go bad.

Keyless Entry

Where would I find the Keyless Entry Module in my 88 GXE Wagon?

ps. To answer a different question about fuel injection, a local mechanic says these are OBD1 fuel injection systems.

I tried what you said with the keyless entree, I found the box for the keyless entry, but there was not a 7 number thing, however there were 3 seperate combinations of numbers and letters, this is what I found:

CONT-ASSY KEYLESS

P# 28595-15E
L# 2K201091
F# S9751997

Looked just like this^

I tryed playing with the certain numbers like 2859515, 2201091, 9751997
:-(

Ok it is the last number on the box when you go to enter it you need to hit the start/clear key enter your number just like this 9751997 it will start to beep at you WHILE it is beeping enter you personal 4 digit number and wait for the beeps to stop now you should be programed.

And for SilverBullet88 it is under the panel in your cargo area it should be labled like the one listed above (just your numbers will be diffrent)

Hope this helps ya all

Some one needs to sticky this info it seams to come up alot

i press the c/st button and then try to enter the code, but it only beeps for the first five buttons i press but then i get no more beeps for the rest of the numbers in the "activation" code

should i be doing this while the door is locked, unlocked, key in the ignition...?

I don't recommend leaving the key in the ignition if you're playing with the power locks from the outside. just some advice.

I wish you people in the midwest would give us in pennsylvania back our severe winter weather. I miss the snow storms, using 4wd, and doing donuts down at the docks...

ok here is how it is listed in the O/M

How to enter code number
1. Press the start/clear ( 00 ) button.
2. Enter the 7-digit FIXED NUMBER. A
beep will sound for 6 seconds
3. Enter a 4- to 7-digit personal CODE NUMBER while the beep is sounding.
4. After the personal CODE NUMBER is entered, the beep will sound at short intervals. This indicates successful entry of personal CODE NUMBER.
If wrong numbers are entered, the beep will not sound. Press the start/clear ( 00 ) button, then enter a correct personal CODE NUMBER.

The following numbers cannot be entered as CODE NUMBER;
.Any number where all digits are on the same button.
EXAMPLE: 1-2-1-2,3-3-4-4
.Any number required sequential operation of the buttons.
EXAMPLE: 1-3-5-7 or 7-5-3-1
.Any number with 3 or fewer 4 digits. .Any number with eight or more digits.
Continuously push random buttons will cause the system to stop functioning for 6 to 30 seconds.

lol, how DID we survive without keyless entry? of course, that's obsolete now and the newest thing is remote control locks... I thought about getting those for my max when I had her. you can get a universal set that wires into your power lock system.

yeah I wanted to get remote start for the sentra but it being stick kinda puts a damper on that. I COULD bypass the clutch safety switch but knowing me I'd forget that it has to be in neutral, and leave it in gear some night, hit the button in the morning and rear-end the parked car in front of me LOL

which would prolly happen the first morning I have it. so instead, I got an engine pre-heater that sucks coolant from the lower radiator hose, heats it up, kinda like a little water heater, and pumps it into the engine through the drain plug. the hot coolant fills the engine, returns to the radiator through the upper radiator hose, where it's recirculated through the heater. cold nights I plug it in, and in the morning the car's already warmed up for me. it's NIIIICE.

anyway, back to the subject of keyless entry....

Yet Another Problem

I think I have run into yet another issue... My car has issues with the buttons. I think my car has some electrical shorts in it, my passenger side window does not work...

-Driver's Side
the c/st button does not make a beep when I push it...

-Passenger Side
the 8/9 button does not make a beep when I push it...

I suspect that the previous owner of my car got the car stuck in a flood or something, because when I went to tune up my car, 2 of the spark plugs were rusted in (got 1 out with some WD40, the other is still in there). The electrical shorts also provide evidence :-/

I wouldn't count on the flood thing you got to remeber this is a 19 year old car that has miles of wiring in it shorts are bound to happen but then again you may be right cause there again it is 19 years old and who knows what it has been though lol... good luck with it anyhow

My driver side Power Window lost power at one point. The PW module is in the driver door handle and I found a bad connection on the little board inside the module. A little solder fixed it. Also my driver side lock button has intermittent issues. It's just old and used...

Then I could be like this guy >

I am a new owner of an '86 Max purchased largely for my daughter. The drive computer and dashboard indicator are both in error regarding the amount of fuel in the tank-off by 4 gallons or more-and she's annoyed by the unnecessary voice warning. Any ideas on how to reset?

Thanks

This info really helped. I just got a 86 max from my grandma and she didn't know what the code was. When i called the Nissan dealer they said that they could take the door appart and tell me what the code is and the it would be $85 plus $70 an hour on top of that. Thanks
