Sounds as if the fans behind the vents need to be re-oiled. How about spraying some WD-40 on them? Worried about stinking up the car, though. Obviously, I'd probly have to pull out the vent covers.

Most likely is a bad blower motor. The symptom is noise at low fan speed, loudest at speed 1. Noise typically goes away at speed 3 or 4. If fan is left at speed 4 for about 15 - 30 seconds, then no more noise (for a while), even if fan speed is set back to speed 1 or 2. Noise is also louder in recirculated mode.

The only fix is a new blower motor. Nissan has a TSB to put a plastic cover on the motor to reduce the noise. Don't waste your time with the TSB. It does not help at all.

Note: I took the blower motor apart to reoil it. Did not help with the noise.

Nissan OEM part is about $130 + $13 shipping (www.nissanparts.cc). Very easy to install yourself, about 30 minutes.

Same problem here. I took it apart, re-oiled: nothing. I can't justify the $$ for a squeak, though. I tried packing foam around it, etc. but to no avail...
