Yeah, it’s easy. But it is not so easy if you don't know what to do. First, take the whole unit out of your car. Bring it in your car, and lay it on its side. Take a sharp object (like a small screw driver or an ice pick) and place it in the screw. Get a hammer, and give a few good whacks. Then do not use a hand driver, use a drill and Phillips bit to take them out. Put all your weight into the drill, and take out the screws. It is that easy. For the suborn screws, tap them with the hammer a few more times, or carefully spray some wd-40 on them. Good luck.

I didn't have any problems removing the stereo itself. I had problems removing the stereo from the bracket when I exchanged 6CD headunits. The screws into the radio were so tight I had to use a phillips bit with a ratchet. They were so tight, I actually broke two phillips bits getting them out!

If you need a "standard" HU removal page, I have one here:

Yeah, a couple of the screws can be a bit hard to get out the first time.

You'll need a large size phillips bit and a power drill. Just lay the whole thing on it's side on a solid table and put your whole weight on it.

My 7.6v Makita worked fine on the "new" head unit. Screws came out pretty easy for the bracket (had to swap climate controls). There was no way my Makita nor 18v cordless could have gotten the other screws out. Nissan must have torqued those babies good!

my screws were stuck GOOD too. I used a 1/4 inch ratchet with a scre driver attachment and that did it for me. I was getting pissed though, an hour of almost stripping the screws and I couldn't get anywhere with a reguler screw driver.

it took me two hours. a friend held the thing to the table while i used a dremel to cut the slots in the screws deeper. i ended up BREAKING TWO screwdrivers. it was sort of a celebration when we got the screws out. then came drilling new holes into the oem bracket to hold the alpine screen in place. what a pain in the @ss...

I had the same problem too because I didn't have a correctly sized screw driver bit to unscrew these. I had to drill two of them out because I stripped them but the other two on the other side came out sooo easy with the right sized screwdriver/head/bit.

you need something with more leverage like get a phillips bit for a socket wrench. a screw driver just doesn't give you that. a big enough phillips tip that'll take the whole opening of the screw, big ones won't slip like small head ones. try that...

My Brother in law messed up 10 of my drill bits getting them out. He has a
5th generation. Just be patient and it will come out eventially. Use common sense. It's a PITA.

I had a tech at Circuit City use the hammer method. I was worried that I had stripped the screws too much for them to come out, but it was all good after that.

a nice ghetto version of this is clamping the screwdriver at the handle with some vice grips. i was afraid to hit the thing with a hammer. i thought it would damage the headunit... loosen something critical in there ... break something... but it seems that a lot of folks here have just whacked it and it works.

those who hit it with a hammer and screwdriver, anybody check to see if the oem headunit still worked?

Came out with 3/8" makita impact gun 9.6v w/ impact philips bit. 10secs

Nissan warranty pays 0.8hrs for R+R audio unit (2k2-3 owners)
I can do it in half the time, so now my service manager gives me all of them

That's funny mine where all socket style phillips screws. I got to use a a socket. The ones connecting the brackets to radio where the hardest to get but still came out no problem.
