Nice write-up. When I flushed my tranny about a month ago I just went with the flush and didnt drop the pan. But either way is going to help the tranny.

Very good write up, when i did my tranny flush i had a mechanic use the flush machine which sucks out all the old oil and puts in the brand new.

lontar1, !!!thanks from a noob!!!!!!

that's the clearest how-to i've seen on this flush in the forum. i'll be doing mine when it warms up. do you have any pics of what the inside of the pan & magnets looked like? was there much 'gray' material in there?

torque? I didn't have a tourque wrench so I tighten the bolts as hard as I could without breaking the aluminum.......HAND Torque.. so far no leaks....

I don`t think they are supposed to be that tight. Just fairly snug should be okay. Otherwise if u make them all too tight, and you somehow managed to produce some uneven pressure... its likely to leak.

you cannot tighten them, with all your arm power. you will strio them, or they will be a bi@tch to take off next time. i suggest you buy a 20 dollar torque wrench from sears. it will help you a lot

Is all this absolutely necessary? My tranny fluid needs changing but I was planning on just draining the old and putting the new in, like when changing my engine oil.

I did mine at 15k and the metal shavings was substantial (I drive meduim-hard). It's your car, you know how hard you push it and you know how reliable you want it to be.

You don't have to do a complete flush but in the name of doing one better, you could.

no a full flush isnt necessary, but you will end up with cleaner oil and you'll probably feel better that gunk on the screen has been cleared off.

When you say "turn the car on", do you mean just turn the key to the "on" position and not crank the starter, or did you crank the starter and turn on the engine?
Also, after draining the ATF in the hose and system, did you add anymore ATF?
Thanks for the writeup.

Yes you turn the car "ON"... so the pump will push the oil out the hose...... I will update in the write up.

Yes you have to add oi every time you take oil out... will update...l

Man, I can't believe that you would spend $60 for that Mobil ATF and not spend half that much for new pan bolts. They are supposed to be replaced if you remove them since they are self- sealing bolts. Why take a chance on leaking out your new fluid?

Easy answer... I call Dave B and he only had 16.... Icalled my dealers in my area and they didn't have them in stock.. I was supposed to wait another week to get them. In my conversation with Dave B he told me that I didn't need the bolts.....so... I took the chance and so far everything is OK.....
