Wiring for Seat Heaters on my '00 SE

looking for some advice......about a month ago i realized that my stock SE was pre-wired for power/heated seats on the two front seats. So I bought some heating elements and installed them last weekend. Everything works great. Seats are warm, switches are nicely mounted in the console. Only problem is the heaters dont shut off when the engine shuts off. I left the switch "ON" one night and the next morning my battery was drained. So how can I fix this so that they shut off when the engine turns off.

FYI - All I did was wire the elements right into the pre-existing wires under the seats already. I am assuming that those wires run to the fuse box. So why dont they lose power when engine powers down ???

Any help will be great. Thanks

How much did you pay for the heating elements? ( maybe I should check my seats also?!)

It may be that they are not connected the same at the fuse box (factory heated seats may have an extra wire? or they don't wire the non-heated seat cars the same?)... no idea. But you can simply put the power onto a switched line in the fuse box that only comes on when the car is started. Shouldn't be that hard and it will be unnoticeable when you're done. That's my suggestion, at least. Good luck!

I paid $225 for the Driver and Passenger seat heaters. Seemed a little steep but it was a spur of the moment thing and I was too lazy to look for a deal.

dont you have to go to the relay or something? the one under the hood? this would probably require both the car power on and the heat switch on for the heat to work i think?

how did you install the element? looking to do the same in my 2k2

Has anyone done, something similar only using factory switches for that "oem" look? That's the only option (aside from Nav) that my car doesn't have and damn are those seats cold in the winter! Am definately interested in hearing more details etc. as that WILL be a mod BEFORE next winter!

Thanks for tryin it out Moose. Any extra info. you have would be great.
